    Hi,

I've read on here that you can freeze bananas and use them in cooking

So can you freeze them and then when defrosted eat them as if they were fresh??? DS loves bananas but sometimes we buy too many and end up getting chucked out.

I'm afraid not - the texture is spoilt, they're mushy if the defrost. If he likes ice cream & ice lollies I'd freeze them & use them as per previous posts. If you use them like ice lollies you can dip them in melted chocolate before you freeze them (you'd need to put them on a stick first of course).

A New Yorker friend of mine got me into freezing bananas and to eat them as a healthy lolly! They actually taste much better than they sound. Just take the skin off and put them in freezer bag or wrap in cling film. They can be a bit cold to hold so sometimes I put a lollipop stick in the banana before freezing it :D

Dip them in melted dark chocolate first for a not-so-healthy version!
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?

I mush them up and freeze in a container, defrost and stick into making banana cake. Useful when only 1 has gone and I need more for the cake. I just add to the container each time I get one, then treat OH to cake when I have enough!!

    These both sound lovely :T.

In the end I froze half in their skins and half peeled and cling filmed. I'll see if they taste different from each other.

Will definitely be making the ice cream with some natural yoghurt that needs eating mmmmmmmm.

Hi finc, Just spotted this thread after surveying the vast banana mountain
that i have. Did you notice any diffrence in the taste between peeled and not peeled? I will have to freeze some of ours today and i'm not sure which way to do. Thanks demented.

I don't think there's a difference in taste, peeled or not peeled, but it's a real pain to peel a frozen banana! So I always peel first and wrap in cling film before freezing.

I agree with lychee you have to partly defrost them if they have their skins on to get them off. Much easier if they are peeled.

  • In the summer, I have smoothies for breakfast, they're really easy. All you need do it put a chopped up banana, few strawberries or rasperries, maybe an apple, some pineapple all in a bag and freeze. I buy whatevers cheap at the fruiter's, I get enough to last me about 10 days, and I make little bags of smoothy. Just empty bag into blender- add a bit natural yoghurt-super cheap, or orange juice or milk, whizz and drink! Its fab in the summer, really filling, and your giving your body a kick start with all the fresh fruit.
