Freezing bananas.

I have some bananas that are on the verge of being completely inedible, but are fine for banana muffins I am planning on making next week.
Can I freeze them? And if so do I peel, mash, then freeze? Or just chuck them in the freezer as they are?Expecting Baby No 1 - 20/06/14 - Team Yellow!0 -
hi there,
I normally freeze them with the skin on. Put in a little plastic food bag and bung in freezer. If you leave the skin the texture of the banana tends to stay the same as fresh
Or you could chop them up without the skin on and freeze them.

Hi moonbabe,
I prefer to freeze them in their skins too. We have a thread with lots of advice on freezing bananas so I'll add your post to it so that you can read through the suggestions.

I'd do it with skin off - trying to peel them when frozen could be grim!

Hi Shankley:hello:
People seem to do it different ways - I would do it with the skin on. I have added your thread to the existing one on freezing bananas, so you can see what others do
thanks:)

My friend can't resist a bargain, and when she found a huge quantity of bananas for sale at a fraction of their usual price, she bought the lot. However, when she got them home she realised that she and her partner had no hope of eating them all before they went off. She hates to see things go to waste, so she phoned me for help. I advised her to peel them and freeze them. It solved her problem and I thought I'd share it with you all.
You can freeze peeled bananas whole, or alternatively cut them into slices about 1-2 cm thick, space them out on a baking tray, cover with greaseproof paper then freeze.
There are all kinds of things you can do with frozen bananas. I wonder if all you thrifty bunnies would like to contribute some ideas? To get the ball rolling, they make a fantastic base for smoothies. Naturally sweet, and much lower in fat than ice-cream.All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.
