Just had a call from a very nice lady from BT who apologised for the delay to my order for the Dell 5100 and said that they will supply the pc & will email a tracking number in the next couple of days.
Apparently they have 30 outstanding orders for the Dell that they will source from another supplier
A big thumbs up for BTs perserverance!
I have also asked for the delivery charge to be waived and the helpful lady said they would be happy to do this as a goodwill gesture.0 -
it is more than i have at the moment and if i get it for £149.00 (Ithink thats how much it was) is it still a good deal
In essence you have a very quiet PC, with a processor which makes it reasonably quick, a big hard disk for storing lots of files, enough memory for everyday use to allow your machine to perform more than one thing at the same time, and a DVD re-writer so you can copy more files to disc for backups in particular. The only thing lacking is a separate graphics card for 3D gaming.
If you're lucky enough to get a warranty with it (looks unlikely though if they have to source it elsewhere) then you've got a cracker! You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -

Have just had a similar message from BT Shop left on my answer machine after I had made several enquiry calls to them.
1) Dell 5150 (£349.99 version) had gone out of stock but was still being offered as available on website.
2) BT have now secured further supplies.
3) BT will email me within 48 hours with tracking details for courier delivery.
4) In view of delay BT will refund delivery charge (£19.99) to me.
My thoughts are that perhaps BT have had to have extra supplies "built to order" by Dell, whereas those who received the original product appeared to receive PCs which were built a few months ago (in terms of configuaration/components used and date/length of warranty period)?
For those of us who receive these "delayed shipments" it will be interesting to see how configuration compares to original machines.
Will post further when PC received.Money Saving Fan.0 -
Interestingly the mid-range 5100s have now been pulled from the BT site, but the 3000 and 3100 haven't, even though they are out of stock. Presumably BT are going to continue selling these and expect a pipeline of some more, but the 5100s must have been a bit painful for them? You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0

sorry to be stupid but what is the difference between
intel pentium 4 3.0GHz and intel celeron D346 3.06GHz 1MB 533HMz FSB
i have spoke with BT shop yet again and they have offered me the 3100 with works for £249.99 though they assure me it has pentium 4 not the one in the e-mail basically do i say yes is it a good deal still - got to ring them back asap will deliver it for Mondayi'm living in a parallel universe0 -
Pentium 4 has more level 2 cache, which essentially means that it operates much more quickly than the Celeron. The Pentiums also have Hyper-Threading, which means the PC thinks it has two processors (even though it doesn't) and this makes it much better for doing two things at once, whereas the Celeron is only intended for doing one thing at a time.
For £249 I think the 3100 is probably not such a great bargain. I bought a 3100 a few weeks ago with a 3GHz Celeron processor direct from Dell and paid about £230 and that included a 15" TFT monitor. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
2 weeks on from my origional order and i am still being fobbed off my Bt Shop. they promise to call me back every day that i ring them, i have had so much stress from these people! i am now writing to watchdog on the BBC, if anyone else wants to foward their complaint, please go here and submit your problems

I had an email from them yesterday telling me my PC had just been dispatched, which was good because I received it last Thursday. How's that for service
They also only just got round to charging my credit card, and I got a £60 discount for late delivery and the fact that my graphics card and PC wasn't as specified. So new PC for £290, but it's taking me ages to copy all my files over from the old machineYou don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0
