The card reader you bought probably has a USB connector. The Dell motherboard does not have an internal USB so one solution is that you need to add one via a PCI card e.g. you could add a PCI USB card with both internal and external USBs and connect the card reader to it. I considered doing this but in the end bought a 52 in1 USB external card reader for £4.69.

    Hi "Searcher2"

the Dell 5150 Mother board does have a

    Media Card Reader Connector (F_USB)

See the motherboard component diagram at page 63 of the Dell Dimension 5150 Owner's Manual

    http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim5150/om/om_en.pdf

and at page 93 of the manual gives instructions for installing an internal card reader.

The point I am making is that the Dell connector on the Motherboard seems to be in a "non-standard" form.

Hence I'm seeking advice from any other MSE'ers as to how they have overcome this. "YES" fitting a PCI card with compatible socket (presumably USB of some sort) is a solution although somewhat expensive.

Equally drawing attention to any other purchasers of this system that fitting an internal card reader is not straightforward.

I know the motherboard has a card reader connector - but it is only for a Dell card reader. The only solutions I have seen is to

    1. Buy a Dell Media Card reader OR
    2. Buy and external card reader OR
    3. Run the USB cable out of the back of the PC from the non-Dell internal card reader into a USB connector on the back of the PC.
    4. Buy a PCI card to give you an internal USB connector to cnnect the non-Dell internal card reader to.

I had investigated this from the Dell forums and also from HotDealsUK where there was a discussion about it. The PCI card and non-Dell internal reader option should be cheaper than buying a DELL internal reader... when I looked it was about £6 for the internal reader and £5 for the PCI card. If you go to PCWorld then triple these costs at least!

Not tried it sorry - but my 7600GT works fine and I can run HL2 etc. at max settings.
