Biglugs and Custard.... if you wanted a DELL with an exact specification maybe you should have bought direct from DELL.
As a previous poster pointed out the DELL website itself indicates a 256Mb card for the X600
http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/video/P97737/en/specs.htm
Maybe you should take on the might of DELL too after you have finished with BT? And didn't the 'v ram' in the spec mean 'virtual ram'?
If you think you have been 'done' by BT why don't you send the machine back for a full refund including postage????
As for a media card reader... £10 worth maybe... instead you got a 3 year Norton AV and almost 3 year full warranty... possibly worth more than £10!!!0 -
The point I am trying to make is that BT have been very sloppy - they have stuck together a few bullet points about a piece of kit they were selling and I personally believe companies their size should pay a little bit of attention to what they are doing, because this exercise shows they haven't got a clue.
As for my warranty it is actually only 2.5 years because my machine was built on 16th Nov 2005 and has been sat in a warehouse since then (by the looks of the box).
And I did NOT take v ram to mean "virtual" any more than I took it to mean "Vast", "Very fast", "vital" or any other V you care to mention.
I think you'll also find on the Dell website that they have other video cards with 256MB of memory and not just the X600. BT just said this machine came with a "Graphics card with at least 256MB V RAM" - it could have been anything, since Dell have machines which come with 6800GSs, 7900GSs, 7800GTXs, X600s etc.You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -

Um, seems a bit hostile there Searcher2.
Surely it's up to each of us to judge the PCs we received for ourselves.
As for Dell I pointed out there misleading video cards a few months ago. The fact that BT got suckered in by Dell's marketing lies does not absolve them from misdescribing the PC.0 -

Fair enough... could be taken as hostile... I just think the offers were a GREAT deal and actually on balance even better than advertised. The fact that someone was trying to sell these machines on Ebay at almost £600 sort of indicates that.
Biglugs said early on in this thread
"It's bound to have one of the X600SE cards in it which DON'T have 256MB - they share it with your PC, so if it did you could always insist on an upgrade"
and then when once the goods were received said "On the plus side it is a 5150 and has a 16x DVD/RW drive and an X600 graphics card"!! And now is complaining about it having an X600 card!
I will bow out of this thread now having been (apparently) the first to receive one of the Dell machines - albeit from Dabs - and being very pleased with it and trying to help others along the way with the specs etc. Good luck with the claims.0 -
Don't get me wrong - I'm not too upset with this machine, but it isn't much of an upgrade from my current P4 3.0GHz and the X600 graphics card is pretty much underpowered for any kind of gaming so it's coming straight out and a new one going in.You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0

Had phone call today from BT saying that the £129.00 unit is not available....I asked why do the offer, etc...he said they had been let down by their supplier, then he told me I'd have the HP unit at the same priceWelcome, rogerramjet.

Woohoo, finally got my machine! :j
Ordered the 5100 @ £229, but like others, received the 5150. Also got 3 years Symantec *shudders* and the Works Suite 2005, as opposed to just Works 7 that I was expecting.
Thanks to everyone who has had an input on this thread, and for bearing with me and all my questions! :T
Hope to see you all soon on the techie board when XP is driving me nuts :rotfl:0 -
Has anybody received the machine priced at 329 pounds yet? If anyone (like me) is still waiting be prepared to be disappointed.
I ordered early on Sunday and have just spoken to BT to try and find out where it is. It has not been dispatched yet (even though we've paid for 2-3 day delivery), there is a major problem with the supply chain of this model. Apparently the 'Operations Director' is on to the problem with the warehouse and I am expecting a call from BT later today for a fully updated picture.
After speaking to the (very sympathetic and helpful) call centre man, it would not surprise me at all if we never receive our computers.
On a different note, I also ordered a 17 " Dell Monitor at the same time. I tested it on my old computer (which currently has a 17" CRT monitor), tried to boot up the computer, and now the computer won't work at all. My new monitor has broken my old computer. THe computer 'on' light comes on for a second and then just turns itself off. Any suggestions as to why this may be?0
