My monitor doesn't have a power lead:eek: I rang BT shop and they said the quickest way to resolve the prob would be to ring Dell and ask them for one, otherwise I'd have to send the monitor back to BT before they could issue another:mad:

They didn't have a Dell phone number to give me, but anyway I've tried a couple of Dell numbers since (after 6pm) and just got recorded messages.

I'm not sure whether Dell will just send me a power lead, and I said this to the BT guy but he said it was worth a try! I'll have to wait and see then.

BTW I queried the speakers and the guy said they're built in  I'm not techie enough to argue that they're not. Can someone advise on this particular monitor please:

    Thanks

If you want to save yourself some hassle, I think the power lead is just a standard kettle type lead, probably only about £1.50.

The monitor shown, does not have any speakers, it looks like a E173FP. I don't know of any dell monitors with speakers. Sorry.

That monitor is a Dell E173FP and DOES NOT have any speakers. Well, I've had one of these monitors for a year and there aren't any on the one I have and there are no sound connectors. I thinks BT are pulling your leg - suggest you get stroppy.
You don't get power leads with the Dell monitors - they come either in separate boxes or in the PC box if you buy a system. If you wanted you could borrow one off an existing monitor while BT send you one.

EDIT: Just had a look again at the BT website and I think this is a mistake. They have three monitors - the E153FP, E173FP and E193FP. These are all identical other than size and the 15" and 19" ones don't mention speakers, but the 17" one does. I think this is a big mistake on the part of BT. Taken with no power lead I would get REALLY stroppy and demand a discount, especially if you have had to sit in waiting for a delivery of an item which they deliberately missold.

  • the 17" is the one i had delivered and after ringing them they are sending a replacement and i can send the original one back!! i am sure i saw something about a sound bar earlier in the thread for the Dell monitors is this the case if not how do you get sound can someone clarify before i waste more time and phone calls

Sound bar is an extra from Dell & does not come with them. The 17" I got from BT is an E176FP, so the newer model (& different to that pictured). No mains lead, but I'm not complaining - they are dirt cheap - you've probably spent more on the phone calls than just buying one from e-Buyer!!;)
Speakers are not built in to any of them (new or old models). Might be worth a complaint, but these are such a bargain anyway, I wouldn't bother!!

I ordered a Dell Inspiron laptop from BT Shop and it came today. No e-mail about dispatch.

Anyway, turned the thing on and it died.  I spoke to Dell technical support and the guy ran through some tests with me before confirming it was hard drive failure. Great, one hour old and its dead as a dodo. He told me they (DELL) would send out a replacement hard drive and I said OK but I'm having second thoughts now. I don't know whether to push BT Shop for a brand new replacement or some money back as recompense. Maybe the delivery charge or something.

I had a look on the Dell support website and if you put your service tag details in (its found underneath the laptop or at the back of the desktop) it gives you all the details about your computer. It said mine was delivered on 8/2/06 and that support would end on 8/2/07????? How long have BT had these? I thought support would begin on the day I received it.

I think regardless of what Dell say BT should supply you with a 1-year warranty as a matter of course. Can you imagine Tesco saying you only get 10 weeks warranty on your new TV because we've had it sitting in a warehouse for 9.5 months??
And I wouldn't accept a replacement disk drive - the machine was patently not fit for purpose and you should demand a complete replacement.

Just had a phonecall from BTSHOP explaining they haven't got any stock of the base model and are having problems with other Dell models.
I've been offered an HP Pavilion A1210 for the same model or there is the possibility of a del 3100 at £299 which is a bit of a difference to the £129 option or I can cancel.

Anone know anything about the HP A1210. I have to ring back 0870 number tomorrow with a decision.

Yes - I bought one from Dabs thinking it had a SATA drive - but when I got it it was only an IDE drive and a very noisey one at that. Mind you - if they are offering you it at £129 then it is a good deal....actually not bad at all - if the drive noise bothers you then put in a new one for about £40-50.

I sent the A1210 (Paid £199.99) back and bought the Dell 5150 for £229... but if money is tight for you then the A1210 should be fine... I would have the A1210 for £129 OR hassle them into giving you a 5150 for £229 as they had avertised (people are sending them back to get the higher spec model so they will no doubt have some in sometime).
  • robs - i don't think the dell soundbar at £ 35 are dirt cheap and the point is i have bought a monitor with built in speakers that is "such a bargain" unless the built in speakers aren't included and i have to fork out an extra £ 35

is there any other means of getting sound with this monitor does anyone know? my existing one has built in speakers but DD is having that one so i can't even use that
