macgirl, you can get little tiny keyhole covers, I'd get one of those as well as a curtain, its bound to help. Those radiator covers, I don't really get them - technically, I think they hold the heat for longer, but also take much longer to heat up - I don't use them myself, but I *think* thats the physics of it.

gill, how interesting about portiere rods! I'd heard the phrase, but didn't know what it meant, so I just googled it - there's loads of companies you can buy them from. Its not appropriate for my front door, because its got windows either side, and I've already had a curtain pole put up there, but maybe my back door .... goes off thinking .....

Style over substance, just as I thought...

Well, the party's in Hale, so on the outskirts of the City, but I'll still give you a wave Gill ;)

My mum put radiator covers all over the place, I'm convinced they keep the heat in, but surely you want it in the room. there were loads in this house, only got one left in the hall now, need it just as a shelf to dump stuff on.

Glad to be of use ;) I'm a mine of usel[STRIKE]ess[/STRIKE]ful information.

Have done most of my list and a few things that aren't. DS and his mate are currently trying to work out if they can fix the table for me, as I've said before, it's not really my taste, but would sooner not have to start looking for a new table at the moment. If it can be fixed i'll get another year out of it.

Hoovering done, will carpet clean tomorrow.
Loads of washing done, some of it even got put out on the line.
Beds stripped, launderette trip to do tomorrow. Will take a book and do that while waiting for the carpets to dry.

freezer is so much easier now its not full of ice :)

  • Well I've pottered around the house and pottered round the diaries, not posting much, just lurking. I've also found some interesting blogs along the way. Got my camera out, as DS had found the wire thingy for me, now the battery is flat, so that's on charge.

I've taken the biryani from the other night out of the freezer, chucked away some ice cream ( bought for a visitor, neither of us eat it) and found all sort of bits and bobs of meat in silver foil. I think there's enough cooked beef to put with a load of veg and make a cottage pie, so will do that later in week.
Have got plenty of pasta, rice, couscous, tortillas etc.
Also pesto (the nice red stuff), tinned tomatoes, kidney beans, sweetcorn. Lots of frozen veg, including onions and peppers, and some cheapo mince. I've also got some soya mince to pad stuff out with and loads of lentils, so actually got quite a lot I can use. just need to persuade DS to eat the food thats in the cupboards as there is hardly any fresh stuff, real economy drive.

I reckon I've got a spare drawer now in the freezer, and very few containers of food, labelled or otherwise.

Still hoping to get paid this week, I'm taking some of the biryani for lunch tomorrow, and have some soup that I will take out tomorrow morning, so can have that on Tuesday.

not the normal early start tomorrow as no 75 mile drive; but have to get to Mum's in time to get her from one end of the city to the other by 9, so will be going across all the traffic - what joy. Then will go to the church, make my excuses and head off to Shropshire. They have snow forecast for Tuesday, we have 'sunny intervals' - but what happens either side of the interval?

Enough rambling, score is still 0-0 and very confused by Reina wearing blue.

I hope it goes well as can be expected tomorrow, on all counts.

  • I've been playing with my blog, but the embroidery pictures on, finally.

It's very random stuff, but the link is here

The actual pictures stretch the page too much for some reason, must be the resolution.

I commented :D and somewhere on there you have a recipe for cranberry mincemeat! Yum yum yum ....... I have to make my own mince pies this year, I think, there'll be enough crap around without the mince pies adding to it, so that looks like a good recipe.

  • KC, funnily enough I thought of that recipe at some point yesterday as you mentioned mincemeat on your thread. The cranberry one is lovely, and it doesn't have suet, vegetarian or otherwise.

I'd forgotten I'd posted it though, and was going to look through my books.

The stamps are good, because although lots of people will buy the same stamp, everyone will do something different.

It's cold here, but still no sign of snow. Had Mum on the phone for ages last night complaining about interfering cousins, so will be building a few bridges this morning.

Have a good day all, keep warm.

I hope it goes as well as can be expected today .... and I'm sorry you have to build some bridges at a time like this - your mum sounds like she's suffering.

Take care - stay warm, stay safe. I have to travel back to my former town, but at least its a really well travelled route.

  • Mum managed OK, but decided not to go to the grave, it would have been too much. Which was fine by me, so I took her over to the community centre, and left her in the care of some cousins. It was odd seeing cousins, thinking "they look old" then realise that they must think the same about me. Got fed up with "you're the image of your mother" - I know, I keep catching glimpses of myself in mirrors and wondering how she managed to get in the house without me seeing her.

Poured oil on troubled waters, built a few bridges. One of these days we'll all meet up and it won't be such a sad occasion, fraught with emotion and feelings of obligation.

Not sure I can be bothered going out tonight, but may shift myself in a bit.
