DT asked me yesterday what I actually DID and I found it hard to describe, its one of those jobs that unless you do it, you don't understand it. But in conjunction with the stuff about looking at your skills, I was looking at my CV and its full of what I've done, not what I'm good at.

So while I'm away this week I'm going to think about the exercise Firewalker talked about, looking at what you find easy, what you can get lost in, and things other people say you're good at.

I think I've turned things round a bit since becoming self employed, but the things I love doing, the crafts and the imaginative gifts, aren't going to make me decent money.
They make me happy, and they keep costs down, and the bits and bobs I sell mean that Christmas will be money neutral when combined with the cashback etc.
Not to take away from what I do, it is more than paying the bills at the moment, so it will get me out of debt much sooner than otherwise.

I know the very outlet! Hope you had a good time.

Gill my DH says the same thing about his job, as the title doesn't explain it either. He also works with computers but is different from what you do I think.

With the craft vs real money debate; I think one is lucky if you can make a good living out of a hobby. So having a craft sideline is a good creative outlet as well as saving cash on presents. the most important thing you said was it makes you happy :T It's a good balance.

Yep, I'm all for balance - if what you do to relax is money neutral then thats fantastic, a real bonus. Making money is something else ....

Hope you're okay today, your working week sounds *so* busy now.

KC- not sure I can keep this working week up for long, but it'll be good while it lasts. There will be about 6 weeks like this, taking me up to Christmas, which is just as well as I won't be working so won't get paid.

The balance thing is good, but I need a bit of balance of things that keep me fit rather than sat still. I've just walked up 2 flights of stairs carrying a small holdall, and am absolutely shattered.

I was busy yesterday afternoon with Christmas stamps. I have stamped onto white card and have brought them with me to do some colouring in. Here is one I did last year, sorry its on an angle, but forgot to rotate it before I saved it.

Off to find something to eat before it gets too cold and I won't want to move.

  • Card looks good nice to have something to do that doesn't need much equipment.

Hope you find somewhere to eat that you feel comfortable with.

Yes six weeks is doable but make sure you don't overdo it even so.

That *does* look good - I followed up the craft link you put on the matrix (lost it, I'd better go back) .... I'm going to really enjoy getting my things out again - knitting, new patchwork, and now cards....

Can you not go for a brisk walk in the evening where you are? When you're working so hard with your brain, your body needs something to do eventually as well (I speak from experience here :o)

Hi Gill, hope you've had a good Monday

It's not easy exercising in the Winter is it? Dark at 4pm (or 3pm soon :o) and cold. A brisk lunchtime walk could be good, but if you're like me you'll work through.
I keep threatening to join a running club, but I'm such a wuss in the Winter, all I want to do is curl up!

yes, that's me too! Actual lunch breaks are not something I ever got into. Eat at desk if at all.

KC - Last night I did go for a walk though, as I sort of knew where I was going, I headed in the wrong direction - deliberately, and went in a circle. So took me about half an hour to go 500yds up the road. So I suppose that was a bit of exercise.
I caught a glimpse of myself walking past an office today and I have started to stoop, must draw my shoulders back a bit. Not sure how I got into that, as I used to have good posture.

Found a cafe bistro type thing that was still open so didn't feel too uncomfortable just sitting with a coffee and some food, in a low chair, reading a paper.

Tonight, not sure where I'm going to go, just the general direction, but want to be back to watch Kirsty. There's so little else on telly that don't want to miss the few things that I like.

Hope everyones had a good day.

I think we scrunch when the weather's cold - well, I know I do - and I lean forward a bit if I'm in a hurry - it ends up being a stoop, you're right. Its a good idea to walk a roundabout way somewhere, to get a bit more exercise, I try to do it when I can, tho I went to the GP where I'm trying to sign on, and went straight there and back (apart from getting lost in the car park at the back of the building, its been rebuilt back to front to take advantage of the main road :) ).

Anyway, yes, Kirstie looks like the only positive thing on tonight.... hope you enjoy it!
