Getting out of my comfort zone

I have been planting seeds with my little twins today not sure how long they will stay planted they do have a tendency to dig things up:D
My daughter chose flowers, sunflowers, calandula (or something like that) nasturtiums and cornflowers her brother chose herbs parsley, chives, basil and coriander.
My OH also got me my belated mothers day present a tree to replace the one he chopped down to about a foot above ground level and then said won't it regrow? so I chose a weeping cherry as I only need a small tree where it is. Cut the lawn yesterday so garden looking a bit better but really it is too big for us since we fell out with our gardener but it is nice not to have to pay him every week and I am sure we will get it sorted one day- have abandoned the veg plot for this year and the greenhouse as that is out of sight and concentrating on the bits we can seehopefully will tackle them over the winter - so not very MSE or up to your standards I am afraid

hi Gill glad to hear you are feeling so much better in yourself. Sometimes it makes sense to take a step down or sideways. That's what I am doing too - but it will improve my family time, work life balance and hopefully my health too!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

DT - hold on to the praise for the veg. At the moment they are just green things in pots! Having a yard is good in some ways as it does restrict you. Spuds are in canvas bags, tomatoes in pots from Mr M the rest are either in grow bags or pots in the greenhouse. going to do tumbling strawberries in hanging baskets.
Hope the littles enjoy their flowers, its fun for them to see.
SH - have realised its a good move for me, it just means there's not really much spare cash to throw at debt payments. But as my debt is nothing compared to some people, it will go if I just plod away.
Have updated my CV with latest job, this one technically finishes in June, so need to start looking around at the end of May. That sounds hopeful for future work - hope you can get some degree of certainty so you can make plans

I think your veg plot sounds great! Even in a yard - a little bit of green is great on the eyes!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Have just been out and checked my veggies, all seem to be doing ok. Feel really enthusiastic after watching a programme on beeb 2 last night about planting veg in the middle of flowers rather than having dedicated plots for everything.
Haven't got payslip yet for this week, and colleague who also contracts for the same agency has been having trouble as his contract has been extended but the agency haven't set his timesheet up, so he can't get paid. Will see what happens later today.

hi gill - hope your pay goes through okay. I like planting veg with flowers round them - companion planting. Marigolds and nastrurtians are really easy to grow and very colourful....
I am spending way to much on groceries so really can't comment on anyone's grocery shopping LOLAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Still no payslip, but money did actually go into the bank, so that's what matters.
Because I have been paid in cash for the last six months it has been easy to stay in budget, if you haven't got it you can't spend it after all. The money that went into the bank, from bingo and scratchies etc. was for extras. Not being quite as frugal, but allowing £50 after petrol, gas and electric. I've also decided that even though I've now turned the CH off, I won't reduce too much the amount I put in the meter, build up a bit of credit.
Bathroom cleaned, kitchen done, washing machine on. Off to shops now and will blitz living room and dining room when I get back, then lunch while watching qualifying for Chinese GP. May potter and play with plants later. May start off some more salad stuff, as apparently that's what you're meant to do.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Sounds like all's going well in your World Gill - good to hear
The kids and I planted seeds last week and little DD and myself were watering them yesterday. I left her outside playing whilst I made dinner. It was only this morning that I saw she had taken out the little pots and left them on the garden table overnight! Doubt we'll see tomatoes from them....
Hope you're having a good day0 -
Oops to the DD and the tomatoes mac, you never know, a few years ago I had one that somehow managed to survive all sorts. It got dropped, then grew a bit, was replanted and I was too rough and left half its roots behind, and it still survived.
Have just walked to the greengrocers and back, 3 mile round trip just for some spring onions and a beetroot. Also picked up some radish seeds.
Not as nice today, dinner in oven, DS on nights tonight. Have spent £42 of my food budget so have £8 to last till Thursday.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0
