Morning, Happy wardrobe clearing to you. Tis one of my favourite jobs, but then I'm a bit odd like that!

  • I like the forward planning you really seem to have it under control :T

Glad that the cuts are helping you I am hoping the economic climate will help me to an extent in that firms may want to take someone on short term rather than commit to a permanent employee of course it could go the other way firms being quiet can cover staff that are temporarily off - I really need a housing boom ;)

  • DT - that's exactly why its working for me at the moment. Local authorities and social landlords aren't taking on full time staff, but if they need something doing and are spending in order to save, they can justify 6 months work, they can't justify the ongoing expense of a new member of staff. Of course this could all change.

I always think contract work as a way of life needs a lot of investment in *you* as a person, and it also needs a higher rate of pay to compensate for the long term uncertainty .... but it sounds like its working really well for you. Brill!

Yes KC - in my first contracting job, there were sly comments about how I earned more than the staff did for the same job. After a while you get fed up saying, 'yes, but I have to save a fair bit in case I'm out of work' - and its harder to get credit etc. as no full time job. As I think I've said elsewhere, I need to look at qualifications as most of mine are out of date or no longer relevant.

Also, that's why I'm sorting the wardrobe.

Friend coming round in a bit, she wants me to take the bodice of a dress in for her, so will rely on her 'designer' type knowledge to be ruthless with the wardrobe.

  • Friend arrived, but we didn't get to sort wardrobe out as by then I was limping round with a bag of peas attached to my foot.

I have a 'butchers block' in the kitchen, never really use it as kitchen is too tiny so it takes up a lot of space and its too heavy to keep lifting up and down. I moved it when I mopped the floor and mustn't have done it properly, as I swiped it with the edge of the mop and it landed on my foot. Ouch!

Have just been listening to the radio and its 40 years ago next week that decimilisation was introduced. I remember the stupid tv programmes explaining it all and how scared people were. Gosh I feel old.

 God I felt that. I've got one of those so know how heavy they are - poor you :(

Good news about the work - even if you do have to deal with the tedious comments  I know a freelancer who said the last 2 years have been really lean, but since Christmas she's been inundated with work. Good to hear the recession is bountiful for some - makes sense I guess...

Hope the foot's ok soon x

Foot will be a beautiful colour soon, but not hurting as bad as I thought it would.

Have done a bit of wardrobe sorting, the stuff that for some reason I can't let go of.

Dress and jacket I got for sisters 40th (she's 50 this year) .It was a classic shift style, but red, so not suitable for most occasions.

3 posh frocks - bought for various formal black tie things when with XOH ( he was in that secret thingy) - and the posh shoes - my feet somehow look wrong in them now, and an assortment of tiny bags.

Various things that Mum has bought me that are just not 'me', and have never been worn.

Jeans bought when I lost some weight, and then I put the weight back on.

Bridesmaids dress - sister got married same year as Charles and Di! May ask sister to put it in her loft with her wedding dress and the flowers.

So now I have some space:D

Off to launderette now to get some stuff dry, and then will attack the ironing as a displacement activity when the match is on. There was a matched bet on this morning for the first player to take Torres out, no bet needed, my money's on Jamie Carragher if he's playing.

What a great list! My sister got married that same year too - in fact, only two days later :) I was *really* sick of weddings by the end of the summer :o

I must sort out the wardrobe soon, it would be a real weight off my mind - most of it is t shirts of ridiculous lengths, and a score or so of black tights - and since I need tights about twice a year, they take up a lot of space! Ridiculous.

    Enjoy the footie!

PS - I was watching Homes Under the Hammer (I'm ill :rotfl:) and there was a bloke on there who did property investing part time, as they do - he made money from internet betting, £500 a week - not matched betting, but betting against the favourites - I'm guessing he was laying a win for the favourites - as they only win 30% of the time or so. I've made a list of favourites in England, Spain and the Netherlands, and I'll be keeping tabs to see if I'm right about what he's doing, assuming a lay size of £200 a throw .... could be really interesting.
