With the news on rising food prices, my mind is made up and I'm going to turn the neglected flowerbed in my back garden into a veg patch, so I might be picking your brains in the coming months - hope that's ok?

macgirl - I am by no means an expert, but muddle through somehow. Feel free to pick whatever brains are left.

For you, as a veggie, it makes sense, as you can get a greater variety than in the shops.

Washing machine - one load done, another load in - now how to get the dratted stuff dry will probably have to go to launderette.

Bathroom and kitchen done. Can't do hoovering etc. as DS back on nights. Would normally have gone shopping by now but Mum not too good again, so waiting for her to ring with her shopping list; can't trust the mobile to stay charged long enough.
Am going to try to do just local shops a) will buy less and b) I can walk, so better exercise.

I need to get to B&Q though for lights for the extractor fan. Kitchen is quite badly lit, so I rely on little lights. Had a spotlight thing which was marvellous but bulbs kept popping. No matter what, so have given up on it now, as suspect the electrics may be a bit dodgy, and what I don't know about I don't have to pay to fix.

Reading what DT posted about needing a kick, I'm going to be more detailed in my spending diary, not just how much, but what I buy, as I seem to have loads of stuff in the bin, but I re use loads.

My soapnuts are finally going to run out in the next week or two, so consider that to be £7 well spent.

Glad that my post has inspired you I think I am going to run out of book before the year runs out as I write so much down I know I could have it on the laptop but I like something I can carry round in my handbag.

You have done well with budgeting for the "bad week" :T

I like my little book, it's easier to do, totals go into the spreadsheet, but the detail is in the book. I think I may be a bit obsessive about it though.

Out of that lot £17 odd was for Mum so did quite well really. Still need to get some drinks for DS from Wilko tomorrow, so around £3 needed.

Not planning on doing much this morning, watching the tennis, maybe do the ironing - I find it hard to cheer Andy Murray on though, he's so boring.

Mum's shopping list yesterday, she wanted some ready meals, but only from M&S. So I picked some up for myself, will try them for work lunches. Mr A is cheaper, but quality not marvellous.

This afternoon if it stays clear, I may go for a walk, may even take my MP3 player and do a walk a bit, run a bit.

Will also be trying out my new craft punch and ideas for my sister's 50th birthday card. May look at some of mine for inspiration.

Otterspool Prom - it's were I usually go. Sunday afternoon there's a kite flying thing going on, so that's good to watch. End to end is quite a few miles, so when I get fitter I can run bits of it and its nice and flat, no traffic.

I have a new daisy punch that I got on ebay, so have been punching random bits of card. Not sure what I can do with it yet, but realised that I don't have much 'general' stuff, mainly Christmas or weddings.

You are always so disciplined Gill, I'm surprised you feel the need for more detain on here - but I'm very impressed. As for growing the veggies, I've been having a look today and think my plot will only fir 4 crops. I'd rather grow what I know we'll use, which are potatoes, brocholli, carrots, cucumbers and tomatoes. I might try a tumbling variety in a basket and maybe strawberries in a container too.
A friend at work has turned his whole back garden to growing fruit, veg and herbs - it's very impressive but time consuming I'd imagine.
