OS Daily Thread - Friday 9th October

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 9th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends,
Jayne - It must be so hard knowing you have to wait for repatriation,I cannot imagine how strong you are having to be. And please know that every offer of help on comes right from peoples hearts, so please call on any one of us if you need anything at all. And you don't have to explain anything to us, as I said before, sometimes normal routines are the only thing to keep us sane in an awful situation like yours.
Churchmouse - sorry to hear about your son, it must have been really worrying. Glad he is Ok now.
Bitsy - great cake honey!
donnygal - hope your knee improves so you can have a twirl!
Taplady and tired mum -
for thinking about me
nomoneymummy - must have been sheer hell playing with those kittens
Catznine - Congratulations on your daughters engagement.
Anniestar - I am still chuckling about the guinea pigs.
Pippa S - Knitted penguins?! Photos please!
I missed yesterday due to the same reason as last week actually. I ended up spending the night with my darling friend who lost her father last week. She needed someone, so my OH helped me get round there. She had a good long cry; then we drank hot chocolate and I painted her nails.
Her dads funeral is today at 2pm, so I am going to chat to Tris for an hour and then get back to bed. He is struggling badly right now so didn't want to skip talking to him two nights in a row.
Cake for breakfast? Of course! We had a huge chocolate cake for my OHs birthday and I have to admit one morning I managed a rather large slice. Thank goodness cocoabeans count as one of your five a day
and the icing was made with real butter so that was my calcium for the day.. :rotfl: I do frequently have home made bread pudding for breakfast - all that fruit HAS to be good for you.
OS-iness may be somewhat sparce today but I am planning to make sausage and bacon spicy casserole for dinner as it isn't too taxing and tastes so good. Thank goodness for such a lovely sunny day yesterday as we dried two lots of washing and are up to date again.
I hope you all have a good day. With love, light and
for everyone who would like one.

Good morning everyone.
MSD - so sorry for your friend. Your visit to her must have brought her a lot of comfort. Sorry, too, that Tris is not doing so well.
Jayne - you and George are still in my thoughts.
I haven't had much time on here lately, mainly because we've been working on the house - or, rather, I've been 'helping'. Still, it's coming on, slowly but surely. I've got used to seeing dust everywhere and just have a blitz with a damp cloth every time the sun shows it up.
Dinner last night was a favourite - new pots, pork chops, courgettes, and creme fraiche sauce with leeks and mushrooms. It's always delicious - creme fraiche is so easy to turn into a sauce. Pud was some of a huge plum crumble that I made the other day.
Dinner tonight will be beef stew with some lovely local beef, and the nearly-past-it veggies that need using up.
Catznine - congratulations to your DD!
Churchie - (((hugs))) to your DS.
Donny-Gal - hope the knee is feeling better. You'll soon be doing the Flamenco!
I haven't caught up with the thread lately, so welcome to any newbies, and (((hugs))) to those in need.
Well, I can hear the kettle playing my tune, so I'll call in later.

Hi Mioliere! Sounds like you are keeping terribly busy. Must be nice to see things slowly changing around you though.
Have to admit I have never cooked with creme fraiche, I usually throw natural yogurt (if we are being good) in, or double cream!
Just made a cheese toastie with the home made cheese and onion bread and it was fab. It's the third time in a row we have made this bread as I am a tad addicted!
Tris is online but his responses are quite slow so I thought I would pop back here. I have told him I will stay up til 0500 my time and then go back to bed.

Morning peeps
just a quickie from me as i`m just about to leave the house for w*rk.
Still feel carp and after looking in the mirror i decided that it would take me hours to try and hide the dark circles under my eyes so i`ve not even botheredLooking like this i will probably scare even the most hardened of people with really strong stomachs never mind the small children but i`m so tired and wobbly that strangely for once i really don`t care
I stayed on the sofa again last night so that the chance of infecting DH is a bit less, it`s his Birthday today and he will be spending part of it with my Dad as he is taking him to do the shopping bless!
I can`t wait to get this shift over- be home for teatime and just plonk myself back onto the sofa
OS wise - i turned the knob on the dishwasher to the off position this morning( feel like i`ve done nothing house work wise for a while and boy does it show)

Morning Guys!
I finished the assessment essay last night and sent it off through the internet:D...so thats all done and dusted now. Just have to wait 2-3 weeks to be marked by the Prof and see if I pass or not.
Today is a peaceful one doing nothing but what I want to do.
WM is on and DW needs to go on later. Nurse is here at 8 to check me over:rolleyes:
Anyway, I need some toast with my cuppa.
Take care.

Sunnyday - sounds like you shouldn't be going to work at all. Hope you feel better soon.
Sistercas - hope your cold doesn't get worse. How awful for your poor friend - she must be so worried and upset. Hope the family can sort this horrid problem out.#
PenPin - hope you pass! I'm sure you will, but the waiting to hear will be a bit nerve-wracking. Well done on getting your essay completed.
Well, I've had a shower and the kettle is back on again. Hope everyone has a good Friday.

Morning.
Day off today, but still up early anyway. Kids to school and P lunches and stuff.
Yesterday was a complete waste of time.
Drove to Bristol, appointment did not show up, drove back Works car broke down at Gordano. Tow truck to HQ in Exeter, another car to home, 11 hours and nothing achieved!
Decided to have a curry in Wetherspoons, but ended up that 2 smelly homeless drunks who managed to scrounge £1.39p for a pint sat near us and kept on stinking and being noisy. So all in all a pretty poor day on the scale of 1-10.
Supposed to be going out with the office tonight and just pottering till then. May kill a chicken or 2......
CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning all
Well I am on holiday from work until wednesday but couldn't sleep this morning typical:mad:
Had a really busy day yest running around with DDs - how come although they are both adults (25 and 23) I am still like a taxi service;) mind you it was nice to spend time all together as they are both usually so busy!
We are going off in the caravan this morning so yest evening gave the house a good clean and did some cooking to take with us. Quiche, soup, lasagna and a curry all ready just to warm up when needed. We are away until tuesday so will be MIA till then. Really looking forward to going this weekend as Ripley Castle and surrounding area is lovely and intend having some nice walks and site has a lovely pool so doing some swimming. So if I am doing all that extra exercise I might just treat myself in the local tearooms to a cream tea one day:p and just diet the other days to make up!:rotfl:
Jayne and george thinking of you both.
Bargainbird also wondering how you and your family are doing now.
sistercas what an awful situation for your friend!
Diva - hope Tristan improves somewhat and hope today goes as smoothly as possible.
Tired mum - I have sent you a friend request on facebook.
Pen-pin well done
N9eav - well today can only be better than yest:D
((((Hugs)))) to all who need or want them.
X"Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you are up to........"Dieting ........... is no piece of cake!!!!:D

Morning everyone
Cranky & George :grouphug:
MSD hugs to your friend too and you for being there.
L-W - hope you are feeling better.
Bargainbird - how is DH & family coping? :grouphug:
SD – if that is how you feel, then being on the sofa is where you should stop and let yourself get better properly. Hope you have a manager who takes one look at you and sends you home. You’ll catch the housework up when you are fit. :bdaycake: to Mr SD.
P-Pin glad you can have a quiet day and got your assignment off on time, sure it will fly through.
H-J – now what could you have stuffed the chicken with – the mind boggles:rolleyes:;):D
Sistercas – your friend is in a catch 22, first of all I would want to kill anyone taking anything so irreplaceable as wedding and engagement rings and doing something to someone like a second Mum to him, secondly I would want to really know if it is a friend, and hence is he being bullied/forced to steal, or is it his own drug habit, I really hope not as she has lots of heartache to come if it is. We have witnessed a neighbours son sell anything not chained down, and spending time in jail getting clean, and getting back on the habit and it all starting again and again, only 3-4 years older than my own DS, he is on a downward path again atm.
On the up side my knee does feel better than it has been this morning, so thanks you good vibes must have been working:T:T, I enjoyed the music but didn’t push it with dancing, but managed the walk to the bar/restaurant and back OK. Today and Monday are Fiesta day here (bank holidays but the shops do close here!;)) Will do the towels and bedding today, did sort some paperwork out here yesterday as a sit down job, just had my oj – frozen from when our friends were giving away their glut of oranges in March, this is the last bottle, also have slices and segments frozen for drinks and fresh fruit salads, together with lemon slices frozen, they help cool the drinks. With DH’s meal last night was like a home made veg salad, he said the veg pieces were quite large, and had a hard boiled egg in maybe 8 mixed in with the mayo, and no onion so would have been OK for me, so will maybe try making one we have some friends coming for a meal next week.
We had a little more cloud with the sun yesterday, but still very nice, and 2-3 degrees higher than normal at this time of year:o:beer::j:cool:.
Take care - DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Morning!
Just a quickie to say Haribo loving the "boobie cancer"...that's a much nicer way to say it
Not much OS today - leftover chicken for lunch, washer on as we speak. Am off to Wales again this afternoon, so the housework can wait until Monday!
Need to go iron some clothes to pack, make a smoothie with Y/S mango from Mr T yesterday and eat some malt loafbefore tootling off to the office.
Have a great day all
