I have no sound....help please

I have no sound on my Toshiba Satalite laptop, no sound on start up either. I have checked all necessary things, i.e. mute is off, speakers say they are working correctly, volume is turned up.

Would really appreciate some help from the experts. Not tech with computers be gentle

Do you mean no sound associated with Windows or none at all?
Can you play anything in windows media player - or similar?

Yes I can play stuff in Windows Media Player?? Can't listen to anything on the internet?

So you have sound from windows media player but not from things like iplayer?

Yes correct, it is something to do with the internet, I use Firefox?
