You see this post Pollycat, this was all I wanted. I could explain to you why it may have seemed I was contradicting myself but I won't because I wasn't and it's not important now...I just wanted advice!

But my post that you're referring to said everything that I said in my first post - but you were too busy jumping on everybody to read it properly, weren't you?
    You just assumed I was 'having a go' - which I wasn't.

OP sorry, I can't help, but I would have been furious if someone had done that to any of my certificates - birth, marriage, death etc.

I dont understand why everyone on here has gone off on one either - you only asked a question!

I dont know what you should do though...

If your death certifacate got stained, would you be turning in your grave??!!

    LOL at your post

This has to be a wind up.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted:)
    I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

Haha, okay okay. Right well enough is enough really. Happy conclusion for me, ailing relative still ailing but the children and husband avoided a battering so they're happy and Pollycat escapes a response (even if I did really really have to bite my tongue).

I'm so glad that in the end I had a few people on my side, but I guess they must be as deranged as me ;)

My well deserved glass of wine awaits.....

Let me give you a TOP TIP.
If you are easily wound up - move away.
If you can reply without personal insults then you may pull up a comfy chair and stay.
Even if you are in the right, once the insults begin, you have lost.
Accept that there are lonely old men who frequent these boards, living in a bedsit with only a pot noodle for company.
They have to get off somehow, and spouting garbage on an anonymous forum is more a turn on for them than the comapny of females.
Once you accept that fact all will be rosy.
In a few months you will look back at this thread and slap yourself over the back of the head with a wet newspaper for how you let people (who be honest - you couldn't give a fatty fudge about) wind you up.

Have a nice day...... (c) Americans

ninestonecreature. after 30 year of marraige my certificate is still in immaculate condition, and thats the way i would expect it to be returned to me if i had to send it to the dvla or anywhere else. okay to anyone else it just a piece of paper, but to me its of sentimental value.

Anyway...I have just had a phone call off the DVLA saying that they will be sending me a cheque to get a replacement and that they apologise for any upset and distress caused. I can't ask for more then that.

    Wow! That's a result!
    Especially as you said here:
This morning I received a letter saying they DISAGREED with my description of the damage occurred and will not accept responsibility for it.

I called them up to speak to the woman who made this decision who is away for the week and have asked her to call me on Monday morning to discuss the matter.
    and here:
I have to wait till Monday to speak to the woman who dealt with this, so I shall look forward to that conversation.

that they were refusing to admit rsponsibility and you'd have to wait until Monday to speak to the woman who made the decision.

Either your charm  worked or the advice you got from the 'other' website was superb. :rotfl:

But if he stood and watched the frigid wind
Tousling the clouds, lay on the fusty bed
Telling himself that this was home, and grinned,
And shivered, without shaking off the dread

That how we live measures our own nature,
And at his age having no more to show
Than one hired box should make him pretty sure
He warranted no better, I don't know.
