DVLA sent back stained marriage certificate.

Arrrgggh, so angry right now.
I had to send off my marriage certificate to the DVLA for a change of address and name on my provisional license, it was sent in pristine condition as we had only got married 2 months previous in NY, and had the document stored in a folder uncreased and untouched.
Ovbiously I had to crease it down the middle to send it, but when I received the document back it had a small orange blemish at the top of the certificate which actually had a strong aroma of curry, there were bits of crumbs that fell out of the envelope, small blots around the edges of the certificate and a few small creases.
I was obviously very very angry and called them straight away, they noted down my complaint and also got me to email a complaint to them.
This morning I received a letter saying they DISAGREED with my description of the damage occurred and will not accept responsibility for it.
I called them up to speak to the woman who made this decision who is away for the week and have asked her to call me on Monday morning to discuss the matter but I feel I will get no-where, also, more annoying is that while I was on the phone I discovered another mark on the certificate which wasn't there before we sent it, and another crease...just to add to my distress =(((((
Anyone have any ideas on what I can do next. At first all I wanted was an apology, but I now want them to replace this as I feel absolutely enraged with the way they have handled this, not to mention very very upset.
Cheers in advance.

A stain on the marriage certificate doesn't invalidate the marriage. If you both have your health and are happliy wed, don't sweat the small stuff."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

they disagreed before they had seen it?0

I do apprciate where you're coming from but I think you have to be realistic.
You would have been happy if they'd apologised but as they haven't done so you now want a replacement certificate?
Doesn't this sound a little weird to you?
How can you be happy with a stained certificate and an apology but unhappy with a stained certificate and no apology?
Would you rather have your original certificate (complete with stains) or one that was copied when you weren't present?
I'm assuming here that NY is New York - have you considered the difficulty of obtained a copy certificate from abroad?0 -
Just to clarify here (and nice that I'm having to do this given how upset I am right now), I obviously would have wanted the certificate replaced in the first place, but an apology at LEAST would have been enough.
Also, OF COURSE I have considered how difficult it would be obtain a replacement, hence why I'm even more annoyed!!!! and yes, I know the stain doesn't invalidate the marriage, I'm not stupid or unaware of what your point is, but if I wanted the certificate in that state I would have just given it to my kids for 5 minutes.
You do NOT expect to send a precious document like that to have it sent back in a state.
If you can't help me please just don't reply at all.
So, can we leave the 'just be happy you are healthy and happy' and 'stop contradicting yourself' statements and can someone just direct me in the right direction?0 -
Also, they have seen it, I sent it back to them and I received it back today with yet another stain.0

But you ARE contradicting yourself.
In your first post you said at first all you wanted was an apology, NOW you want a replacement.
And now you've decided to mention that you sent it BACK to them - presumably for them to view the damage.
And you've been unlucky enough for even MORE damage to have been done to the certificate.
You've taken exception to 3 replies you've had.
You want pointing in the right direction?
Try googling 'replacement marriage certificate issued in New York'
Good luck with your complaint with the DVLA - if you've taken the same attitude with them as you have done with posters on here - I've a feeling you're going to need it.0 -
A Stain in the chapter of life . I do wish that the only thing in the world we had to worry about was a stain on Mr/Mrs 9 stone .
I have a rubber here that may help , a bit like rubbers may have helped in your married life.0 -
Are you having a laugh??? MY attitude???? I came on here to ask for HELP, not for anybody to point out contradictions. I wrote that message/plea in an emotional angry state, If you had half a brain you would see that. I frankly don't care if you think I'm being silly for feeling annoyed at someone damaging my property, why should I not want an apology???? Some one has been careless to the point of ruining a document I sent in perfect condition....am I being soft here?
Ruthha....your comment was about what?? I'm sorry, I must have posted in the wrong section did I??? I'm not asking you to worry about me dear, I was just asking for help, and what kind of a comment is that 'a bit like rubbers may have helped in your married life'???? go and bother someone who actually wants to read you drivel.
Right, well off to another forum who actually want to help and not criticise, you lot should be ashamed of yourselves, bunch of A holes!0 -
Should have got 3 certs when you got married £5 each, makes each one very special because I know there are 2 more just like it.
I for one are pleased the DVLA are not spending a fortune replacing docs that may or may not have been damaged by them.0 -
