You want pointing in the right direction?
Try googling 'replacement marriage certificate issued in New York'
So, you didn't bother following my advice then?

Just to clarify here (and nice that I'm having to do this given how upset I am right now), I obviously would have wanted the certificate replaced in the first place, but an apology at LEAST would have been enough.

Also, OF COURSE I have considered how difficult it would be obtain a replacement, hence why I'm even more annoyed!!!! and yes, I know the stain doesn't invalidate the marriage, I'm not stupid or unaware of what your point is, but if I wanted the certificate in that state I would have just given it to my kids for 5 minutes.

You do NOT expect to send a precious document like that to have it sent back in a state.

If you can't help me please just don't reply at all.

So, can we leave the 'just be happy you are healthy and happy' and 'stop contradicting yourself' statements and can someone just direct me in the right direction?

what, you mean you had kids BEFORE you were married, that's shamefull!!!

get a grip hardly a big deal
  • Are you having a laugh??? MY attitude???? I came on here to ask for HELP, not for anybody to point out contradictions. I wrote that message/plea in an emotional angry state, If you had half a brain you would see that. I frankly don't care if you think I'm being silly for feeling annoyed at someone damaging my property, why should I not want an apology???? Some one has been careless to the point of ruining a document I sent in perfect condition....am I being soft here?

Ruthha....your comment was about what?? I'm sorry, I must have posted in the wrong section did I??? I'm not asking you to worry about me dear, I was just asking for help, and what kind of a comment is that 'a bit like rubbers may have helped in your married life'???? go and bother someone who actually wants to read you drivel.

    Dont think shes happy... :rotfl:

Better not send it to them again - might come back with a coating of 'special sauce'.... :D

A Stain in the chapter of life . I do wish that the only thing in the world we had to worry about was a stain on Mr/Mrs 9 stone .

I have a rubber here that may help , a bit like rubbers may have helped in your married life.

If you're not too busy on the other forum , I think you'll find that ruthha wasn't worrying about you.
Her comment (which is - maybe surprising to you - similar to all the other replies) was to the effect that a stain on a marriage certificate is a small thing to worry about.

A stain on the marriage certificate doesn't invalidate the marriage. If you both have your health and are happliy wed, don't sweat the small stuff.

No it doesn't invalidate the marriage but I would be well hacked off.

I think it shows a certain lack of respect on the part of DVLA. I treat my marriage certificate - and all sorts of other stuff - with a great deal of care. I would hope and expect others to treat such things as they would expect theirs to be treated.

DVLA should, on any analysis, have provided an apology.

As someone who worked in the Pensions Department of a very large company and dealt with many original birth, marriage and death certificates every day, I always treated these important documents with great care.

However, the histrionics from the OP have contributed to the way that this thread has gone.

I still think it weird that the OP stated in her original post that:
At first all I wanted was an apology, but I now want them to replace this as I feel absolutely enraged with the way they have handled this, not to mention very very upset.

If she'd asked how she stood about getting DVLA to pay for a replacement or even how she went about getting a replacement at her own expense, maybe the replies she would have got would have been different.

OP sorry, I can't help, but I would have been furious if someone had done that to any of my certificates - birth, marriage, death etc.

I dont understand why everyone on here has gone off on one either - you only asked a question!

I dont know what you should do though...
  • I think the Op shoud consider themselves very lucky - when I sent my marriage cert off to get the name changed on the mortgage, it managed to get lost.

Needless to say a copy was duely obtained and do you know what, I think I've looked at that copy about once in the 19 years since.

Lifeisbutadream, I don't think you'll be that furious if/when your death cirtificate gets a curry stain.

I don't actually think I went 'off on one'.

I do apprciate where you're coming from but I think you have to be realistic.

You would have been happy if they'd apologised but as they haven't done so you now want a replacement certificate?
Doesn't this sound a little weird to you?

How can you be happy with a stained certificate and an apology but unhappy with a stained certificate and no apology?

Would you rather have your original certificate (complete with stains) or one that was copied when you weren't present?

I'm assuming here that NY is New York - have you considered the difficulty of obtained a copy certificate from abroad?

I queried the OP's reasoning that at first all she wanted was an apology (so presumably she'd have kept the stained certificate) but when that wasn't forthcoming, she suddenly wanted a copy.

I (quite reasonably I thought) asked if she'd rather have the original (admittedly complete with stains) or a copy.
I know what I would have rather had in the same circumstances - and it wouldn't be a copy.

I also mentioned the difficulty of getting a replacement certificate from New York. This may have some bearing on whether the DVLA agree to pay for a copy.

And - at that point, the OP went 'off on one'.
