Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 8th October 2009. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good
Morning everyone :hello: to all newbies Janiebaby, Stokegal, Lowesy, RachelW1987 , topsyturphyand any others missed
Cranky & George :grouphug: I am sure the waiting and not knowing, why, how, etc., is so hard to bear, plus obviously the disbelief, the everyday routine will help I am sure. I also had a DS with more fat on a greasy chip no matter what he ate, shame I am not the same:rolleyes:. Pleased you have friends and family there to help. :grouphug:
Mrs_M/Beth – Hope the funerals went as well as they could, sorry to hear things are not as good as they could be. :grouphug:
Glad to hear the good news - Sunflower
Diva – hope you managed a lie in, all others who would like more sleep.
M – remind me not to come for that coffee when you are doing your onion soup, taste or smell of them makes me ill. Noticed here Cauliflour, Brocolli and Cabbage don’t seem to be a cheap as the UK, or maybe that is Netto, Alid & Lidl prices :rotfl:
Tiredmum – Sorry to hear about DS, hope he has settled at home atm.
Aussie – how is your summer going, sounds like you are ready for some rain?
Essex there are nice parts of everywhere, often people of misapprehensions of mining villages, thinking there is no green around when of course there is.
Molly – my answer to your DS was to just shut the door and let him live with the consequences of his idiocy, and throw the lot out and give him an airbed and sleeping bag! Mine like all had his moments, but his aim was good, and never made me a mess like that (untidy as heck though!).
Pen-Pin – Hope the headache has eased, and you have a better day. :grouphug:
Sunnyday – hope you feel better soon, janiebaby29 hope the MRI scan went OK :grouphug:
Bitsy – that cake was fab
Nic1Lou2 – Ripley Castle is great as is the walk around it and the village
Stef – hope you got some info from the benefits board, how can someone do that to kids!
OS wise, DH cleaned all the windows inside and out yesterday morning while I washed up – (I don’t do the washing up normally) and swished and wiped the kitchen worktops, cleared a few flutters, as it is only small, I will try to put some photos on Facebook later if anyone is really interested. Breakfast was Bran Flakes & Banana, not my natural choice, but DS’s GF left them this summer so would not waste them. Lunch was a cheese sandwich, and as it is so warm (when I woke up at 5 it was 22 deg outside!) we did an outside meal, which we cooked as we ate on an electric stone, Thin slices of meat (how they sell it out here) cut into bite size pieces together with peppers, mushrooms, and tomatoes served with some new potatoes. Later some neighbours came round for a couple of hours to play cards “Skip-Bo” if anyone knows it.
Unfortunately I appear to have twisted my knee so was resting that, and it does seem improved this morning, but has delayed the start of the walking regime, what an excuse to sit and sunbath and read?? Managed to get in the pool as it is unusually warm, but could only float as a breast stroke swimmer and the knee couldn't handle it.
There is loads of live music available out here, most of them retired performers from some reasonably well know bands or their backing group. Will be going to one tonight and there is another one of a group who really can play on the 22nd, all free entry just buy a meal or drinks as you wish. Hope the knee improves so I can get a dance.
Connection to this has been a nightmare, which is why I am posting sporadically, plus it is so nice to be inside, but have bitten the bullet and when Telefonica offered me Broadband without a contract period I have agreed to it, they are due to call me to arrange installation, probably neither MS or OS, but makes me happy..
Taplady, Redruby, Jayward, H-J, Snoozer, CM, Snowy, Smoky, Kazzaw, Annie(s) and all those MIA
Take care DG
p.s. Glad to hear the good news on DD Hilstep

Hi there Donny Gal and all who follow. Just beat me to it!:rotfl:
Havent been on for a while, just read the thread a couple of times. Couldn't sleep this morning. Been awake since 4am:eek: esterday it was 9am before I woke up. Think my body is going into "Winter" mode:rotfl:
Went to see John Barrowman in "La cage aux folles" last Saturday. Best show I've ever seen. It was fantastic:T If you get the chance, go see him.
DD is doing well. Sickness has all stopped. 12 week scan on Monday. They are both very excited!
DS is enjoying University. I think he worked so hard to get there, that he's really making the most of it. Enjoying living with his Dad too, though whether his step-mother likest I don't know!:rotfl:
((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))) for poorly people who need them today.
Going for cuppa now! Check in later!
I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Morning
Another early one for me today I woke at 3.33 and couldnt get back to sleep so I got up at 4.15 - not too sure why I am waking upperhaps it's excitement of my sister coming next week
:j
Made a chili in the SC yesterday which turned out lovely had it with some roasted pepper rice which was yummy too.
WM needs to go again:rolleyes: I am struggling to get items dry atm not used to drying clothes indoors I guess
It seems colder this morning so I have popped the heating on to take the chill out of the air.
I have a bin bag full of clothes for the charity shop which I managed to fill last night, I suppose that's one good thing about still not having facebook I actually get off my backside at do something of an evening
I hope you all have a good day xx0 -
Morning.
Avoiding the heating here too. I will wait until the OH nags me enough to put on the timer. It's not cold though.
Off to Bristol today for a short time. Lots of driving for a pointless commitment.
OH is unhappy as she got pulled over by the traffic cops for jumping a red light on a bridge. She says she did not, they said she did and was annoyed that they were rude. Got no ticket, so I guess they were not sure in the first place! She still thinks it's my fault somehow????
Last day today and then 3 days off. Home made Chinese for tea and a drop of wine I think.
CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning all,
Well Ds2 is coming back from Uni at Manchester tonight untill
Sunday:j so going to make a huge meat and potato pie after
meat has cooked in the slow cooker- so he should enjoy some real
food.
Still got lots of washing as usual to do, need to get a new clothes
drier and order some coal in now as its definatly getting colder.
Hope everyone is well, have a good day x0 -
Morning all
It's cold and wet here - last night I couldn't face driving home in it (having been soaked on the way in) so I got the bus.
I have a new staff induction morning this morning, which wouldn't be so bad had I not been here a year already. I am thinking it might be skivable, but I have to go an listen to the safety officer talk. Which annoys me, as I've had H+S roles in every job I've ever done (including this one) and I do find them a less concerned than my previous department with some of the mess round here.
I finally bottled my chutney last night and rewashed and hung out the laundry that time forgot. I'm still a bit stressed and my teeth hurt where I've been clenching them, so I'm not eating much because it hurts to do so. OH is back on the 15th (I think). I made some mushroom "omlettles" last night in a silicon tray to take for lunch today. I packed some yoghurt as well, but I think it has escaped in my bag
Welcome to all the new people:wave:
(((Cranky and george))) I also have cake for breakfast frequently. And sometimes for lunchI love brownies too, but I have never been able to make them - I think I have a few cake wreak fail photos somewhere
Hilstep - glad you enjoyed your show
have a good day all, cel x:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -

Morning all,
No rain yet, but the sky is very dark, ageandjo, I am finding it really hard to get the washing dry, one lot on the airer had to be re washed as it smelt fusty, waste of time.
Haribo it was not a french fancy :rolleyes:, but a hm coffee and walnut cake, and it very obviously counted towards one of my 5 a day(walnuts)
Stef, I hope new mr Beardy, sorts everything out, how terrible leaving the little girl without even a coat
Off to work today, roll on the weekend, I am going chicken chips and peas tonight, nice and easy, will have to try and do another wash of light clothes too, its ok as soon as the heating goes on as they dry nicely then, but its not cold enough yet.
Ok need more tea, have good days all
Love to Jayne and George xx
Edited to say, Donny I would love to have a nose at your place over there xx0 -

Hello everybody,
It was a touch of winter here this morning. Glad I haven't taken the doona off the bed yet. By mid morning it was warm though. Had a lovely day with DSis at the shopping centre. Got ticked up by the bus driver for not pressing his stop button sooner. Thank goodness he stopped. Luckily I got a different one on the way home. DSis & I both had a pedicure. Neither of us have had one before so it was a treat. Got home around 3pm.
:think:Might go and have a wine and relax with DH. Tea will be something easy. Probably a fry up.
DG We are still into Spring here. Summer starts Dec 1st. It's been nice the last few weeks but very dry. The real hot heat hasn't set in yet. Oh joy, something to look forward to. NOT.
Haribo I don't think I've had an ANZAC for breaky. Think I'd rather a stud muffin.
CM Enjoy your lunch with Ivyleaf. Try and let her get a word in at times won't you?
Have a lovely day and <hugs> to those not well & Cranky xx. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

Have to get ontop of housework early as its Poetry Day at school today so will be making 2 trips as Poetry recitals are staggered by classes, So in total will be back and too 4 times today to do pick ups, drop offs and wait arounds! I soooo hope its not raining!!!#
