    Lets push this further...

You keep mentioning "caged animals"... so can I assume you also have a problem with the keeping of Mice, Hamsters, Gerbils, Rats, Guinea pigs even Rabbits? Is it ok if they are kept in a cage that meets your specifications?

Or are you against keeping any animal in a cage? From your rants I'd be tempted to go for the latter... just my opinion of course ;)

I've noticed this as well, the majority of Ruby Moon's posts are "attacking", and i use the term loosely, people for keeping "caged animals" everyone is entitled to their opinion but you don't have to force it down everyone's throats in any thread to do with caged animals.
Friendly disputes are welcome but you seem to think only your opinion matters and is the only correct one..

I didnt see the pictures so cant comment on the size of the cage but the op sounds like she is doing her best, maybe constructive advice would be better than having a go

If it helps take the pressure of the op, I have a pet owl that I keep in an aviary back garden :p

Oh my god some people are just always nebbing in! A Degus is a tiny creature. Do you own one or ever owned one? Sick of people on here commenting on other peoples animals lifestyle etc etc. There are a hell of a lot of caged animals in this word, there are monkeys and gorrillas in tiny cages and you are whinging about 2 degus in a cage that is adiquit for there size? Oh please go away and find someone elses thread to spam will you. :j
What a silly comment to make.
I have never owned a bear in my life but I know that a cage 15ft x 15ft is going to be a bit on the small size. No surprise really that the woman who did exactly that was mauled to death.
As I asked the previous poster (who didn't care to reply) why is it that you are so aghast at someone for caring about the welfare of animals? What is it that you find so.....offensive?
I am saying that 2 degus in the cage that was shown were in a cage that was TOO SMALL and UNSUITABLE because of theTYPE of cage it is.
(You will notice that when a different poster pointed out that the cage should not have wire floors, the OP added an extra bit of information about putting some lino down on the floors in a couple of days)
Well done. Doesn't matter too much if it damages its feet in the meantime then? Not to mention the poison the degus will ingest from eating the lino (which they most certainly will). It does seem quite obvious that the OP has no idea whatsoever how to keep Degus, what they like and what they should not have.
However, if you want to 'stick up' for a friend, thats up to you....and the rest of you.
I, on the other hand, will carry on trying to get minimum standards for all animals kept as pets.
If the RSPCA and vetinary standards don't sit well with you, then I suggest you make a complaint in writing.

so a bear in a cage not a lot bigger than it, is a suitable comparison to degus in a cage 100x their size is it?

oh, sorry, i probably shouldnt write that, i dont have the exact cage measurements... i must be uninformed!

tell you what, why dont you put your knowledge of pets, which is clearly superior to everyone elses, to good use and find a picture of a cage you think would be suitable for the OP to keep her degus in? they can chew through wooden and plastic cages and PAH actually have guidelines up in their shops next to the cages that state quite clearly they should only be kept in wire cages for this reason!

and when you do, how about you word the post nicely instead of your usual put-down manner, then someone might actually listen to you!

People... this board is generally for money saving advice - the BGs here allow a lot of non money saving threads because we like for people to share the joy of their pets and get advice (provided obviously it's not medical advice...).

IF a poster is being abusive then click the Abuse button on their posts - as my signature states "it is not my place to deal with abuse".

Personal attacks are not permitted and should be reported to Abuse who will review it and remove or warn members where appropriate. In extreem circumstances they will also ban members. BGs move threads to get better responses - remind people to be nice and close threads very rarely (unless to open a new thread where one has become too long).

So... instead of fuelling a fire - just click the abuse button and let them deal with it. And ofcourse there is always the "ignore" function allowing you to ignore a particular poster (meaning you can't see their posts on any threads you read :) ).

Remember: Be nice to all money savers :)

Mrs. Tine you talk a lot of sense! However, I did click the abuse button yesterday and the offending posts have not been removed. 'Management' do not seem as bothered by the 'please be nice' rule as you are.

I've just read through this thread and was honestly appalled by, well, all of Ruby Moon's posts.
If you cared so much about the welfare of animals, would it not be better to offer some advice, rather that being so rude? Maybe even ask for the cage dimensions rather than judging by pictures, that it was too small?
I believe everyone's entitled to an opinion, but I do not believe they're entitled to be rude about it.

But anyway! OP, I think you should put the pictures back up- I didn't get a chance to see them before they were removed, but I'd love to. The degus always grab my attention when I visit Pets at Home, bless them! :p

Natu haved you clicked the abuse button and reported anything you find offensive? I assume if enough of us do it will eventually be taken down.
