PS. Neil Oliver in the nuddy?!!! Is this episode on BBC iPlayer perchance ;)
Had to go Google the chap after the mentions on the board. Not my type really - not a big fan of blokes with long hair tbh.But had to chuckle at his campaign to bring back manly men...an valid opinion yes but with such girly hair?:p It looks in fab condition tho...:T Sadly mine won't grow that long :(

Having lurked in this thread for a while and read so many useful threads I decided to try my hand at bulk cooking... any type of cooking is normally a challenge for me... i could burn water...

So last Monday I made the following a 2 lasagnes, 4 bologneses, 2 beef casseroles, 2 cottage pies for OH and me, for DS I made 5 cottage pies, 2 bologneses, 5 portions of 2 type mash (sweet and whire), 4 portions of spinach and mushroom mash and 5 portions of mashed whatever was left and it's been a massive success so thanks everyone for giving me the inspiration to try new things, I have vowed to never serve OH Iceland Ready Meals and DS jarred food :T

I'm still not totally MSE but I'm getting there, last Thursday morning OH called me to say that DS godparents were coming for tea and instead of panicking and rushing round to Tesco and spending £30 on bits and bobs I simply took out 2 lasagnes, made homemade wedges and had my first attempt at making garlic bread (I added parmesan to the garlic butter and it was the nicest garlic bread I've ever tasted) as I wasnt rushing around I even made an apple crumble and to risk spending temptation in Tesco I asked our guests to bring over custard but am now wondering how to make it (I've been bitten by the cooking bug :p ...)

I've now also become like the food police and wont let OH throw any food away, so I cooked a roast yesterday and am now making stock from the carcass (again for the first time) today to use in a chicken and mushroom pie for tonight's tea :j:j

This is very un-OS, but I meant to tell you all earlier...I was watching an episode of 'Coast' from Cornwall to South Wales last night.... it was the one where Neil Oliver went swimming in the buff at Ilfracombe.. I came over all unnecessary at the sight of him in just a towel! :o:p:D

Ooh ;) I have a soft spot for him too

Good for you , custard is really easy to make it is just eggs, milk or cream, sugar and vanilla essence ( a good one) .

    300 ml milk
3 egg yolks or 2 whole eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla sugar or sugar and add vanilla essence
    1 teasp cornflour
Heat milk ,beat eggs , sugar and cornflour together in small bowl, then add milk stirring well, return sauce to pan and heat until cooked. If using whole eggs strain mixture.
  • Well Done stokegal!!! So much more rewarding than whacking some freezer food in the oven :)

    Sounds yummy!!!
  • HI everyone.

hugs to all those who need them.

I'm making mushroom soup for tea tonight and am also going to try baking a tarte au chocolat.
  • Afternoon everyone. A late post from me today as I've been to hospital for my results. I'm pleased to say that the cancer doesn't seem to have gone elsewhere so, although the treatment that follows will be draining, I'm on the home straight. I can even go back to work a bit (part time) while I wait for chemo to start as it could be four weeks yet.

I hadn't realised the release I'd feel when they told me I was going to be OK. I'm now shattered and need a nap I think.

The only downside is that the nurse thinks that I might not be able to work as much as I'd hoped through chemo so money is going to be tight. We'll manage, and hopefully MrS will have a new and better paid job soon anyway, but I don't like the thought of struggling. Good job I've got the OSers on side to keep me on the straight and narrow hey?!

So, a not very MS lunch at the pub but a HM curry for tea and a nice early night I reckon.

Big thanks to the lovely OSers who have offered me hats. I'm most grateful and have PM'd you. They've said the chemo will affect my hair but using a cold cap I have a 30% chance of keeping it in some form. I've decided to have it bobbed on Thursday and chopped really short before I start the chemo so that it's MY choice rather than that of the nasty, nasty cancer.

Hugs to everyone that needs them; I haven't yet read through the post but I shall do so shortly.
