Possibly - that's why I have children, and my chooks and pig live outdoors :rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
This is very un-OS, but I meant to tell you all earlier...I was watching an episode of 'Coast' from Cornwall to South Wales last night.... it was the one where Neil Oliver went swimming in the buff at Ilfracombe.. I came over all unnecessary at the sight of him in just a towel!

Oooooo - floss. I have never met anyone who shares my admiration for Neil Oliver. Can't believe I missed him in just a towel.

Having lurked in this thread for a while and read so many useful threads I decided to try my hand at bulk cooking... any type of cooking is normally a challenge for me... i could burn water...
So last Monday I made the following a 2 lasagnes, 4 bologneses, 2 beef casseroles, 2 cottage pies for OH and me, for DS I made 5 cottage pies, 2 bologneses, 5 portions of 2 type mash (sweet and whire), 4 portions of spinach and mushroom mash and 5 portions of mashed whatever was left and it's been a massive success so thanks everyone for giving me the inspiration to try new things, I have vowed to never serve OH Iceland Ready Meals and DS jarred food :T
I'm still not totally MSE but I'm getting there, last Thursday morning OH called me to say that DS godparents were coming for tea and instead of panicking and rushing round to Tesco and spending £30 on bits and bobs I simply took out 2 lasagnes, made homemade wedges and had my first attempt at making garlic bread (I added parmesan to the garlic butter and it was the nicest garlic bread I've ever tasted) as I wasnt rushing around I even made an apple crumble and to risk spending temptation in Tesco I asked our guests to bring over custard but am now wondering how to make it (I've been bitten by the cooking bug
...)
I've now also become like the food police and wont let OH throw any food away, so I cooked a roast yesterday and am now making stock from the carcass (again for the first time) today to use in a chicken and mushroom pie for tonight's tea :j:j
Wow, that's brilliant :-) well done!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

Afternoon all
Have just about caught up with jobs today and looking forward to a quietish evening.
Homeaway - I've never made HM custard before  but your recipe has prompted me to try it - another step forward in my OS life
Sunflower76 - so pleased to hear that the cancer hasn't spread. I have a friend going through just the same thing at the moment and she had her first chemo session yesterday. This morning she felt a bit queasy but otherwise not too bad. I did have a text with a few expletives about the wig though - I think she too will be looking for hats and scarves instead. Anyway, hope you've managed to have a good rest this afternoon.
OS-iness today - lots of washing, some ironing, BM going at the moment, meal plan done until Sunday, grocery shopping done, potatoes and veg prepped for tonight's dinner and for tomorrow (to go in SC) and meat out of the freezer and into the fridge. Also went to work for an hour for a training session. Going out for a swim in a while then back for dinner and Masterchef.
DD2's car failed its MOT - some cable about to break
but hopefully it will be ready tomorrow.
OK, I haven't a clue who Neil Oliver is so I'm off to find out
.
Have a good evening everyone,

Actually I decided not to get that one as I'd been spending rather a lot on cookbooks -yes, really:D I thought I'd have a look at it in the shops before taking the plunge. Should I get it? Has it got nice pics?Thriftlady, has your Thrifty Kitchen cookbook arrived yet? Mine was delivered today. I was just wondering what you thought of it? sunflower76 wrote: »Afternoon everyone. A late post from me today as I've been to hospital for my results. I'm pleased to say that the cancer doesn't seem to have gone elsewhere so, although the treatment that follows will be draining, I'm on the home straight. I can even go back to work a bit (part time) while I wait for chemo to start as it could be four weeks yet.....
