Hello Faith Cecelia
Just reading through your thread (got to page five, will carry on when I've posted this).
Just like to say I think you're doing really well in what must be a very difficult time in your life.
When I'm feeling down, this hymn always helps me through. Bearing in mind the title of your thread, I hope it does you too!One day at a time, dear Jesus,
That's all I'm asking from You
Just give me the strength to do ev'ry day
What I have to do;
Yesterday's gone, dear Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine
Lord, help me today,
Show me the way
One day at a time.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Well - yep....and I would phrase things in different language (not being a Christian) - but summat along the lines, as I have been urging, of taking one step at a time. I do believe that one should "aim for the Sun" in life - as that way you are more likely to make some "progress along the Path" than if your "aim" is set rather lower. But - having done that - then take one step along the Path at a time.
Its been my own personal experience at times - like right now for instance! - that one CAN sometimes only see through "the fog" enough to see one step ahead down that Path. But...provided one is trying ones best (as you are) - then its a case of making that one step forward and then the next step will be revealed and one just has to trust that there is a continuation to that Path and that (when one reaches Journey's End) that it will become clear that one was guided as to what Path to walk down and when to take that next Step.
Just my two pennorth...:D
I've just had a somewhat "heated" discussion with people who cant seem to see the Path I am following and/or dont agree with it. I've just had to "be firm" and make it plain that I would prefer them to understand/agree - but if they dont - then that wont make any difference to me. I will follow my own personal Path anyway. It would be nice to have particular people "believe in me" - but if they dont - then...never mind...I will follow my Path anyway and take comfort from those who do "see" where I am aiming for and will support me. Sometimes/ultimately - one can do no other.
So - I am guessing that there are few, if any, people in your life personally ITRW who support you regardless of what your decisions are. I'm not making any bets as to which way things will go for you - I am just wishing you well that you choose whatever path is right for you. I would say that is how most of us are feeling who are following your Journey on this - ie that we will wish you well if you go back to being a nun, we will wish you well if you dont. Our concern is that you make the decision that is right for you and follow the Path that is right for you and we will be interested to see what turns out to be.
If you feel the need to come to us "virtual friends" here on MSE - as, at the moment, people "in the real world" who feel that way are in short supply - then so be it.
But - bear in mind - that it isnt going to be long now before you start that next stage of the Journey - and the person who has enabled you to start in on that next stage is one of the people who does understand and support whatever decision you ultimately make. So that has to be a bonus...0 -
I suppose I am lucky really. On the whole, my friends are extremely supportive, as are my grandparents (I'm grandads favourite - he has even tolf the others so!!:p) But I can't deny its hard with my parents, maybe moreso because they feigned support for so long

I like this little poem, I had it for years before I ever 'needed' it, but now I constantly ecite it:
God never would send the darkness
If He thought you could bear the light,
But you would not cling to His guiding hand
If the way was always bright.
And you would not choose to walk by faith
Could you always walk by sight.
I'm also finding the hymn 'Be still my soul' a comfort too.
Anyway, todays activities are:
Counselling
Returning a jumper that made me look like an 80s soap star:rolleyes:
Buying a coat - my red one is to die for, but is not an everyday coat.
Hopefully starting packing:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
good luck with finding a more appropriate coat and with the packing.
ceridwen - i've had similar discussions with people, and it really is a shame that whilst i always try to respect other peoples paths, they sometimes dont seem able to respect mine. my path isn't the most common, and i must sometimes keep elements of it hidden from those that simply wouldnt understand and with whom i have no desire to try to explain!!
cecelia - i really respect you for seeking help but also for doing your best to explain your own path and choices to us, perfect strangers. i've learnt a lot from you, and have also been prompted to think more about my own path too. thank you.Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -

23rd Spiral - I've realised...I think..... BUt...yes....I certainly do agree that we should all respect each others paths. I think this is the thing - we may or may not follow the one most familiar to us...but I know I personally can still relate to various Christian concepts and excerpts from the Bible - and will find myself quoting them, as they best explain in familiar language what I am talking about.
I think we can all learn from various different Paths.
I think Faith that I can relate better to the "strand" you are following of the Christian path - from when I looked up originally what nunnery you have been in and found that the founder seems (from what I read) to have a bit more of a "mystical" approach to Christianity....errr....if I am interpreting aright? - and that I can relate to....as the last Christian church I was in is one with a wide mystical tradition (ie the Quakers).
Whichever Path we are following - there are experiences in common/lessons to be learned from each other....0
