....The skirt I've got on today is one I got last year from a charity shop,Per Una still with tags on,lovely material but I wasnt keen on the waistline, too many pleats in the front (not kind to my tummy!)so I remade it,and its fine now-looks good with my boots which I've also fished out......
Wonder if the original owner felt the same way, but didn't have the skill or inclination to remodel it?0 -
I'm having a very lazy day today after doing too much on Friday and Saturday and being totally exhausted yesterday. There's still lots to be done but it can wait. I was planning on doing some cross stitching as I want to get some Christmas cards done and dusted but I can't see it happening today afterall. I keep fooling myself that I'm all well and good but really it was less than 3 weeks ago when I had my op so I really need to slow down a bit.
I need to make some mint sauce ready for tea later on as I have the ingredients so don't see the point in visiting the shops just for that. I only need a few teaspoons worth for onion bhajis and mint yoghurt.
I've just won a nice hat from eBay ready for when my hair falls out from the dreaded chemo. There are a few more that I'm watching that are cheap so hopefully I'll get my hands on a few for the same cost as one from a regular store. It's amazing how the bills from having cancer are building up. I'm on my fifth week off work so soon I'll be onto SSP rather than full wage. Hospital visits cost £4.90 for parking and it's no cheaper (and far harder) to go via public transport. Hats and bandanas and wigs are silly money and I've got to have new bras. Plus when I do go back to work it will be part time at least while I'm having chemo although I have budgeted not to go back full time at all even once I'm fixed. :j I need to stop moaning really as I'm still here and there are people suffering far worse than me right now.
Haribo, I'm trying to persuade MrS to let me have some chickens but it's a firm NO at the moment. I'm trying really hard but he's having none of it :rotfl:0 -
Are you able to get to Gateshead later in the month? This exhibition is really informative...Story of The Supremes It was in Blackpool late last year, and has lots of good information & illustrations about the whole era & Martin Luther King.
Thanks for that floss.
Gateshead is a bit far for us to visit, which is a shame, but there's lots of stuff going on for Black History month.
The link has given me some ideas though, so thankyou. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -

They were studying oratory and ds was asked to look for repeated phrases and other things that I can't remember. They compared it to Obama's Yes we can speech.
I've found the link on youtube thriftlady, so we're going to watch that. I was moved, just by reading the speech so can imagine how powerful listening to it will be.
We read a Martin Luther King book which talked about how life was before he started campaigning, read the speech, then DDs wrote about the part of the speech that stuck in their mind the most and why.
I think it's a great idea to compare MLK's speech with Obama's. Thank you. I wouldn't have thought of that

Morning all, Hope everyone is having a better morning than I am!
(RANT ALERT) ARRGGH!
So where to start
Firstly went to Tesco on sat(which is at the moment a reasonably big deal as I am carrying a injury and when that is better am having an op) was in the kitchen goods isle(one of my faves) and got talking to a lady who was looking at frying pans.
She asked me something and we got chatting. I told her about the site in general and this board/thead in particular.
She was really interested and was also delighted with regard to the bank charges and being able to reclaim them. I gave her the email address of this site and also (in response to various questions she asked) email addresses a couple of mystery shopping sites.
Anyway off I hobbled feeling really good and that I may have helped someone- anyway about ten minutes later in the fruit and veg section shes having a very loud conversation with a friend (about me and the site)and thinks its all "a load of s***" . I was really upset and felt humiliated. The page I had written on was on the floor(complete with my name and email on it)
This really upset me and made me feel stupid and worthless. One of the reasons I have not been posting much is that things really got on top of me and I have been lower than i have ever been before. I am really trying to "bounce back" and I won't let this rude woman set me back(fingers crossed)
I enjoyed the shopping and only spent £22.17 which was also good.
Anyway, got home. Postman(not our normal lovely one)had posted a graphic novel through the door despite it clearly having please do not bend on the front. It looks a real mess and as it was to be part of Marks birthday pressie(and wasn't particularly cheap) I was not overjoyed.
Then we got cold called and they didn't put the phone down so couldn't use the landling for ages.
Then when I could use the phone i paid our council tax twice!!!:o:o(I know I know) its an automated service that normally aborts the call if there is a break in the transaction(caused by a Fergal launching himself off the back of my sofa and knocking the phone on the floor!) but it was almost complete so it took the money instead of cancelling it as i thought it would so stupid here paid it again:mad: Have been on to them this morning and is probably easier to just let things stand as they are but really could have done without this as Oct is car insurance month(something else to do today)
Then........ last night settled myself down to have a gab with an OS'er only to find said phone broken beyond repair- the curly wire had been bitten through(Fergal we think as he has "form")
And finally the worst this morning....... My most favourite cookbook in the entire world has been totally ruined I was soaking the metal bits fron the cooker in the sink and somehow my beloved treasured Dairy Book Of home Cookery found itsself there as well. Am gutted.
Anyway, I am now going to have a drink and read todays thread and calm down. On a much more positive side I can finally say WM has been on-you have no idea just how good that sounds to me. I have longed to be able to post that an now I can.:j:j
Will read and answer shortly. Have a good afternoon and thanks for listening.
Take care,

Also look up Rosa Parks - she was the lady on the bus....
The Supremes exhibition was very good for illustrating what life was like in Detroit & surrounding towns/cities in the "ghetto" areas and also showed the reaction to MLK's death and his funeral. They also had copies of the LP that was released of the speech.0 -

Well I have achieved most of what I wanted to do this morning. Three loads of washing are now blowing on the line and Dd's shopping list is sorted out with a few extra store cupboard ingredients, cleaning bits and some luxuries added. A lovely lady from this thread has pm'd me offering a discount code so I'm going to go with Tesco this time. It never occurred to me to look at Waitrose or Sainsburys as we don't have them here but I'll definitely look at them next time, although hopefully she'll be recovered enough to go back to work next week.
Haribo, Glad Dbil appreciated his early morning call.
Having seen the pics of his chicken run I am seriously impressed! As for the pm, do as your big sister tells you and report, report, report!
Molly, I would certainly get him to help you with operation clean up and as others have said I would be tempted to throw the carpet away and not replace it, to teach him a lesson. I hope he can get the help that he needs.
Tru, troublesome teens do get better...dd slammed her bedroom door on me once when she was early teens. I wouldn't have dared do that to my mum and told her if she ever did it again I'd take the door off. She did it again the same evening and not being one to issue threats I'm not prepared to carry out, I removed the door and kept it off for three days. We live in a bungalow and her bedroom was opposite the kitchen so she had no privacy whatsoever. It was the devil to get the door back on again but she's never slammed a door since. I promise it does get better. She and I are very close now, miss each other terribly and speak every day. Ds1 is now 15 and has had his moments. I don't know if it's his easy going nature or the fact that I am [STRIKE]older[/STRIKE] more tolerant than I used to be, but he seems to be 'easier' than dd was. Ds2 is the one I am dreading teen time with, but hopefully I've got a few years before he kicks off. They all do it and most recover from it. I really hope you feel better soon and it's good to read you are getting back into your Old Style lifestyle.
NPM, I hope you all have a fabulous time. I too can't believe the twins got through.
flutterby, I love your sofa!
Beth and snoozer, good to see you both posting again.
smoky, lovely to see you posting pics again, I always enjoyed your cheerful ones on the daily.
MicheH, well done you!
tiredmum, thinking of you and your son x
anniestar, Hugs x
Sorry for the essay, I think I am just procrastinating because I don't want to do any more decluttering.
On the upside, my car is broken. Not usually good news, but it means Mr Pink will have to do the football runs instead of me :j so I think I'll bake a cake instead to sweeten him up.
Take care,
Pink0
