Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 5th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning all
welcome2.gifCuddlymarm and CatAddict- nice to have you with us
ceridwen - Thank you hon. Before I became unable to work I was a therapist/counsellor for many years and it was one of the basic things I tried to help people with. That you really really cannot change what someone says to you or how they think, but you can control your own reaction. And purely by doing that you can take a lot of the power back from the person concerned. Sorry, probably proselytizing too much, will stop now.
Molly - Oh you poor thing.. big hugs honey. And I too would make him pay for replacements!
Noahs - I am glad you liked the song - I just adore his voice and I love 'Hurt' but it's such a sad song. Oh and I LOVE that veil. It is very classy and you will look beautiful in it.
Miche - I think seeing the Dr is a good idea. You might just need some counselling to help you sort out the panicky thoughts, but either way, just telling him/her about it is a positive thing.
Kitchenbunny - ouchies! Hope your arm feels better soon.
Haribo - I would be mad too, what a waste!

I have to say that I was under the impression that Ceridwen's post was not board related and that Reverbe was being genuinely supportive.
I quite agree - I thought ceridwen was talking about real life so a little confused where edinburghlass was coming from.
My sunday was lovely and peaceful but not a scrap of OS-iness. We even had fish and chips for dinner! Enjoyed my boiled eggs and toast for brunch though.
Today I hope to do much better! I WILL go out into the garden and sort out all my pots and the new ones I got and I WILL make sure we eat something from the store cupboard or freezer. giggle.gif The BM is already on and thank goodness our normal home help lady is back today. I had a horrible experience on the phone with one of the guys from the agency she works for last week and it really shook me up, so I am glad I will have no need to talk to them this week!
Anyone here watching Harpers Island? I have found it addictive TV.
Have to scrub at the grouting around the border in the bathroom today with some bleach as I noticed the section under the shower unit are a bit darker than they should be. The shower curtains also need a blast in the washing machine too they are going pink!
Anyway, I hope you all have a good start to the week. Warm gentle HShuggies.gif for anyone who wants one!

spent most of yesterday in the garden , tidied , pulled up the last of the carrots, hoovered up lots of leaves, it looks lovely now.

need to nip to Mr T's later to do a top up shop , its amazing just how much food the girls can wade through over a weekend.

((hugs)) to all that need today
hope everyone has a good day

Morning Diva, sistercas and all to follow,

I woke at 5am this morning and wasn't able to get back to sleep so I've beeen planning a shop to send to dd. She hasn't been able to work in her part time job since she went back to uni so she's short on funds...I asked her to send a shopping list so I could do an online shop and I'm amazed! She has included a really sensible mealplan and ingredients to make all her meals from scratch. I know it sounds silly but I'm really proud of her as she was in catered halls last year and this is really the first time she's had to cook all her meals. I don't usually do food shopping online, can anyone tell me which supermarket is best to order from?

My plans for today are to make breakfast (cooked because I'm up so early) and get the boys to school, then I need to clean the windows because the weather has been lovely lately so they've all been open and the cat seems to think it's a good idea to go in and out of them twenty times a day leaving a trail of kitty footprints. The sun was shining yesterday and I could see just how bad they are :o. I also want to wash the boys bedding and get it dried outside if I can as we are forecast rain for most of the week. Then more decluttering. This afternoon ds2 has football after school which always makes homework difficult to fit in before tea time but thankfully I'm off work this week so I won't be rushing out this evening. Tea will be something with leftover pork...I'm thinking of slicing it and serving it with veg and gravy in giant yorkshire puddings but that could change if I can think of something more interesting.

Off to put the kettle on, I hope everyone has a good day.

    Morning :hello:

    Molly :hello:

Haribo, have you got pics of your chickens? I would love to see them.

I hate teenagers. Wish mine would move out. I plan my day then they whizz through the house like a tornado, being rude and demanding. When I say no, I'm apparantly being unreasonable and they're unbearable til they go back out again. I'm left with a stress headache for the rest of the day and end up getting nothing done.
This is the complete opposite of what I need. I've spent months going backwards and forwards to my GP, he was fab and acted as a therapist, lol. He set me on a lovely straight road (I was going round in circles) and life was getting better. The teens know all this, but don't care. I've had enough, they may live here but they're now on their own.

Hopefully, I can now get back to ME. I had so many plans which have been on hold because of them. OSing isn't just something I do, it's a way of life and I love it. It starts again today.

    Day 1
    - Make and ice a cake.
    - Boil up the frozen chicken bones for stock.
    - Clean out the chickens and raise their perch.
    - Pick some tomatoes and raspberries.
    - Eat homegrown salad and my own chicken's eggs for lunch.
    - Tip out the compost, put the good stuff into a new 'bin' (big old plastic water tank from the loft) and shovel the part-rotted stuff back into the compost bins to carry on rotting.

    That's enough for one day.

    Hi Guys,
Tru, I totally agree with you. Thats what hurts the most - like you Im unwell and my teens know this but continue to behave in a selfish way. It totally wiped me out yesterday as DS1 woke me up at 4 and i didn't have the energy to do anything else. Ive woken up this morning and still feel really upset about it and overwhelmed because Ive got such a lot to do today. I still haven't sorted his room and dont know what to do with it. Im thinking of buying a carpet cleaner as its the cheapest option and i could use it again? Thought about hiring one but thats expensive too!!! What would you guys do? I have tried getting him to clean by hand but its too large an area and too badly damaged? I wish he was someone elses problem. He has to live at home as he at college and only has a low paid part-time job.
Anyway Tru you sound lie you have a plan today - I hope you get everything done.

OS = well hopefully my cleaner/ help is coming today but she is letting me down now on a regular basis and did not visit at the end of last week. Im gonna have to find a replacement. Ive got to get organised and send some emails and make some phone calls. I will hope to feel much better by lunchtime - that's my aim.

Its been a bit of a week for me what with sorting out my employers and my kids. Id like to thank you all for your kind words and pm's. Sorry if I have not replied individually but your support is much appreciated.
Lets hope it's not a manic monday,
    Love,
    Mollyxx

    Morning everyone!

Another Monday ... I really need to get back into meal planning for the week. Wasn't there a main meal planning thread somewhere on here?

I hate getting to 5 o'clock and the kids ask what is for tea and I don't have a clue!

Look on MySupermarket.com, if you put in her postcode, they will tell you which is the cheaper supermarket that delivers to her area :)

Molly, if it were me in your position, I would get him up, get 2 buckets of warm soapy water & 2 cloths, and make him clean it with me. I would suggest that you don't speak to him whilst doing it (put on some music or the radio) but when you have done your half, go and make a cup of tea/coffee and watch him finish the rest. Only then, can you think about raising the question of paying for replacements / repairs or how he could afford to get into that state - do you think his drinks were spiked at all? Does he generally drink a lot at weekends or is this a one-off? :grouphug:

    Morning all,

Looks like a nice day here again today, I have a least three loads of washing to do today, I think we are due rain for the rest of the week too, so really need to get it done today.

Pink I use sainsbugs for my weekly delivery, I think tbh they are all much the same, Mr T and ASDA will probably be a bit cheaper, but then waitrose value range is supposed to be very good, and match Mr T in price , i suppose it depends which is nearer, you could also do your shop on here which will give you the best value xx

Today I need to have a good clean through, the bathroom needs a good scrub, and I need to hoover and mop, I also need to transfer all the dried stuff in my cupboards to lock and lock.

I am also going to pick the rest of my carrots and spinach, and blanche and freeze. Oh and do an online shop.

Yesterday I made a coffee and walnut cake and 27 small banana cakes, half of which I iced with the left over coffee icing, and stuck a walnut on, the other half are in the freezer for next week, so we are ok for cakes.

Dinner today will be the mini roast that we did not have yesterday, OH ended up cookin a chilli, as we went out walking and got lost  (again !!).

Have fun all, and take care xx

    morning all:j
well DS had me up at 4am again:rolleyes:. I don`t think he will ever sleep late but after years of this it is getting tiring.
Have to get fatcat to the "cat hotel";) today while we go on our weeks farmstay. I hate taking her as she always gets a real huff on.
Am looking forward to this hol and it will be lovely to do a Tru/Haribo and have chickens:rotfl:
We have a mealplan for a week apart from one fish and chip night.
We are taking DS to Flamingoland one day as he loves rides....it is quite expensive but with his DLA letter he gets in at reduced rate, I get in as his carer. We are also thinking of York railway museum as he likes trains and its free....does anyone know if you can go inside the trains? I know they are just stationary in the museum but can you go inside them?
Tru/Molly sorry your teenagers are being such pains:rolleyes:
Pink I use Sainsburys for online shops, never any hassle and the food is good.....have tried MrT but they always give lots of substitutes in my experience.
Well better finish my coffee and get OH up....it takes a while for him to come round in the morning:cool:;)
will be taking laptop with us so will catch up with you all.

Watched X Factor last night.....glad Jamie afro got through!!:T.....cant believe Louis put those awful twins through though:eek::rotfl:

You used to be able to go in some of them, but it must be about 12 years since I was last there (DS's now 21 & 23 :p)....

There also used to be a big carousel in the park beside the river (near to Clifford's Tower) if Noah is OK with them? I think that was a pay-to-ride though, but you could watch it going round?

    Have a fab time :)
