I am a size 22/24 and 6 foot and I find it near impossible to find clothes that are both wide and long enough!

I do the majority of my shopping at Dorothy Perkins. I find their clothes very fashion-forward and that means a great deal to me.

Monsoon always have loads of size 22's in their sale rails too!
  • I am a size 20 and my number one choice is 'Yours' I shop from their website on a regular basis. The sizes are great and they fit !! More importantly they offer fashion at affordable prices. They have recently opened in Lakeside so I have been able to visit a store nearer to home. Give them a try ..... You'll be impressed !!!

I think the main thing which stops me buying more online is the hassle of having to send stuff back if it doesn't fit. I don't mind taking a punt on things like t-shirts but for trousers expecially I just have to try them on as each shop/brand seems to be sized differently.
  • Not seen anyone mention the fantastic French and Teague range 1647. Yes the clothes are dearer, but fantastic, quality and cut (sizes 16 to 47!) I have pieces I have has for years that look brand new. The clothes are manufactured in Ghana at a reputable factory that helps the people, your money is not going to some sweatshop.

I've found some fab plus-size clothes in our local Sainsburys. They have 3 women's clothes ranges: petite, standard sizes (which usually go up to a 20 or 22 and are called "Tu", for reasons best known to them), and a plus-size range called "Grace". They do some nice tops and dresses, and their returns policy is very good, so I usually buy the two possible sizes and take back the one I don't want. They did some good linen clothes over the summer and the quality is usually OK - not fab but then quite cheap so that's fair enough. Stuff is often in the sale as well - I just got a lovely dress for 12.50 and a top for 9 quid, which isn't bad!

Matalan do some good clothes, especially a new range of Miracle Fit jeans, which have adjustable elastic at the waist (like you get in some toddlers' trousers), which deals with the problem of having jeans that fit my enormous butt and thighs but keep falling down because they're too loose on the waist. Good prices, but not fantastic quality (apart from the jeans), so I tend to stick to fashion items that have a shelf-life anyway. Their sizing isn't generous though.

I've found Yours great for jeans but a bit iffy for everything else. They are inordinately keen on the kind of nasty nylon that usually only gets used for Butlins uniforms, so jackets and trousers are right out. And all their t-shirts seem to have "cute" logos on - barf!

I usually find Tescos a bit useless as they go for the "teenage slapper in Benidorm" look rather too often for an old fart like me. All a bit too young and trendy!
  • Why I don't understand is if the average UK size is a 16 and there are an increasingly number of people over that 16 (including me), why do a lot of shops only go to a 14/16/18 or whatever? Primark for example. They'd do well to stock a 20/22. I find too that because they can be a bit mean people who are a 16 buy the 18s so they all go.

Also, why is it that a certain size is different store to store and sometimes within stores. Eg I can fit into some 18 tops, but bought a Peacock 22/24 and it was tight. Shoes are the same, 4.5 in some, 5 in others I even got into a 3 once!!

I like Bon Marche they go to a 24. They do different length trouser legs too and label the length.

Don't know if its been mentioned but I get some great summer dresses from a company in Amercia, off ebay

    Holyclothing

Some of the items are gothic inspired, some I would be dubious of (Harem Pants), but over the last couple of years had 12 dresses from them.

I always go for the fixed price, offer half of what it says, they come back with a counter offer, usually in the middle.

Even with shipping there really reasonable.

They go upto 32, everything they sell their are really detailed sizing, bust, waist, hips, length, I couldn't recommend them enough.

A massive thanks for Next tip, will read the posts 2mor xx

Bon Marche do fab swimsuits that are great value compared to other shops!

I got my trackie bottoms in asda, cheap and cheerful, but surprisingly well fitting (both round the waist, and long enough in the leg for me too) and well made!

Re. Evans going down hill they recently had a range of clothes by Beth Dito including a royal blue catsuit, sorry ladies but I do not ever want to see anyone my size in that!

Wish we had a local Tesco and Sainsbury's I could see the plus sizes in.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

I have been buying my work clothes (jacket, top and trousers) from https://www.kanopy.com for a few years now. They are a UK company who only make for larger sizes - up to size 38/40. I'm a size 24/26 and 5'7" and wear their size 4 long. The great thing about their stuff is that it is natural fibres and there are POCKETS!!!

What I can't find at present are plain cream T tops. Can anyone help?
