I want to buy some long plain t. shirts, the length to cover your bottom.
I dont want to pay the earth for them as they are only for the gym ! Size 26. Has anyone seen any ?0 -
terra_ferma - thanks for starting this thread - great idea! Considering that over 40% of women on this country are now size 16 or over we are treated appallingly by clothes designers and retailers. There are laws against practically every other form of discrimination except size.
I agree with many of the comments already made especially the one about clothes for large women not being designed by large women. Whilst I don't want to be frumpy I want things to be suit my size. Luckily it seems to be on trend this year for longer tops so at last I can get things long enough to cover my bottom, but why oh why do so many blouses and dresses in large sizes have ties? I get fed up of unpicking seams to take the ties out and then sewing back up again. And I've never found a large women who wants them. There also seems to be very few different styles. The same designs of blouses pop up year after year just in different fabric or patterns. This seems to particulary happen in Evans & M & Co.
I used to like the quality of the Plus range in M & S but am very disappointed this is now only available online, and really object that Plus sized women are discriminated by the company this way - in fact I have recently written to them to complain - response awaited. We keep reading about what a bad time the retail trade is having, yet many of us can't shop in the high street any longer.

I get trousers from M&S, as they do differing lengths. Their ranges of sports/casual trousers are excellent, but unfortunately the matching tops are far too short - I like long tops to cover tum and bum!
For the gym I get short-sleeved pique tops from Cotton Traders - they go up to 5XL and are very comfortable to wear (not clingy when you get a bit hot and sweaty!)
Ulla Popken is great quality. Expensive, but if you get on their email list they notify you of their sales. There are often excellent Ulla bargains to be had on eBay - hint: search for Ulla Pop*; lots of people get the Popken bit wrong. I have seen Popleen, Popkin, even Popcorn! Pop* should cover most of the common errors.
Ann Harvey is another pricey place, but excellent quality and good sales. Also lots on eBay (search for Ann* Harvey - lots of sellers spell it Anne).
I have rarely seen anything in Evans recently that I would have if they were giving things away! Weird shapes, terrible colours, and quality not good. And their sports trousers are either cropped (not with my ankles, thank you!) or far too long.
Charity shops - large size clothes are not that easy to find here but you can get lucky. I got a nice Elvi top the other day, and some time ago got a Marina Rinaldi jacket.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions here - lots of companies I hadn't heard of before. This is an excellent thread!0 -
Forgot to mention TK Maxx. Very hit and miss, but they quite often have German and American clothes, which are good quality and a bit different.0

Hi all,
I think this a great thread. Personally I buy from Yours. They do really nice fashionable clothes, free delivery for over £60, and they are always updating regularly. I have bought from them quite a few times, and they always have sales on, some plain tops go for as little as £3! All my jeans i purchased at half price. I even got an email the other day offering me a code for a discount of a couple of pounds!

Do any of these ALSO do "Short" - ie 5' tall? I am size 18 but only 5' so it's REALLY hard as most stores seem to assume that if you are bigger, you are also taller. For instance , the Ann Harvey petite range (at least what is stocked in most stores) finishes at size 16.0

I agree with you! I also hate the fact the new clothes you are buying travel down, a sometimes dirty and wet, platform to the till and then get put into a plastic food carrier bag which often the clothes do not fit into.
If supermarkets wish to sale clothes then they really need to address this0 -
Thank you so much for starting this thread OP! I have always bought from Evans and Ambrose Wilson but will try some of the other places mentioned. I had no idea Next did plus sizes.
I wonder if anyone could help me with a problem I'm having? I'm a size 26/28 top and 22/24 bottom (depending on where I buy from). My sister has just asked me to be her bridesmaid next year (the diet starts next week!). I'm finding it impossible to find a plus-sized bridesmaid dress in the UK. Most of the ones I've seen are strapless, which is no good for me as I need to wear an industrial-strength braand the strapless bras don't go up to my size.
I really love the "modest" style bridesmaid dresses that you can get from the USA (for example these), but don't really want to order from the US because of all the extra costs involved etc. I need a floor-length, chocolate brown bridesmaid dress, preferably A-line style with sleeves and I can't find one in the UK anywhere online. Does anyone have any ideas? I think my sister is wishing she hadn't asked me now and got one of her thin friends to do it instead! If I can't find anything I think I'll have to say I can't do it and just let my daughter be her bridesmaid instead.0 -
Hi, Great Thread. First of all I agree with all those who say Oxendales etc sizing is hit and miss. I am way up at the top end of their sizing and have to order my size and hope for the best. The fashion industry has a lot to answer for. Clothing manufactures totally ingore larger ladies. It is easier for large men to get kitted out than large ladies.
I have found an american site. Google Zaftique and you should get a link.0 -
I am fed up of manufacturers assuming that everyone that is a plus size has a negative waist , also I hadn't heard of Elvi going under - that is the only place where as a size 26 I could get trousers to fit (most of the time I have to seriously take the waist in as you could get another person in there!)Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup
