what is it with retailers of mainstream shoes for women? i mean if i a woman needs a size 8 like i do, can they not possibly consider that her feet may be a bit wider as well as longer?
i can wear a mans shoe in 8 no problems but 90% of womens shoes size 8 are way too tight. yes evans does a more reasonable fit but evans shoes are expensive and generally most aren't my style anyway
i've pretty much given up buying womens shoes and buy plain black mens shoes or trainers but i'd love to have a lovely summery sandal once in awhile or some cute little court shoes without paying the earth for them!
Yes, shoes are the bane of my life too! Brantano have ladies shoes up to size 10, and what I like is that the shoes are all on display so you don't have to ask if they're available in your size, you can try on whatever takes your fancy.

They are a bit expensive but I bought two pairs of boots this time last year and wore them every day through the winter and into spring - spot of polish and they look like new. Just google them.
If you add yourself to the mailing list they send regular offers. As I said, more expensive (my boots were £120 per pair) but really great quality and built to last, plus the comfort is to die for - this is the first winter I've had in years when I've not had the typical depression of trying to find something good and comfortable - last year's are still great.
Thank you for this thread you have made my day with all these new outlets!

I second that! :T I have 3 pairs. 2 were bought in the sale at the bargain price of £49 (+P&P) each. Again, buying out of season is best, if you can.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

What a fab thread!
I used to buy loads of stuff from Simply Be etc but unfortunately now my accounts with them are under my DMP - Im dreading needing new bras as they seem to be the only place I can get them in my size (46C!) reasonably priced and nice - not parachute harnesses like Evans!!
Evans I find is quite hit and miss - I've bought three things from there in the last 2 weeks (all in stores away from my local area, 2 of them in the sale) but I can go for months without finding anything in there. I do like their jeans though - they are excellent quality and fit my strange shape!
I also love Yours - being quite young (well Im in my late 20's but young at heart!!) I like all the fashionable stuff they get and being in Leicestershire there's loads of stores round here.
I used to love New Look but the last thing I bought from there was a larger size from the normal range - the Inspire range is a bit disappointing now.
Not keen on the Rogers and Rogers stuff at Matalan though - its all weird colours! I also find the bigger sizes in the Papaya range are a bit skimpy. H&M's BiB range is awful - drab and frumpy! The one thing I bought from there I quite liked (a black shrug) I ended up giving to my mate as she wore it more than me :rotfl:
I have no problem buying tops, I am anything from a 16 upwards but usually about a 20 and have loads of gorgeous tops. However, I dont have many trousers as I am a size 26/28 on the bottom and find it really hard to find trousers I like that fit! It really annoys me that there isnt more choice for larger ladies - it depresses the hell out of me when I go in places like Topshop and Primark (love the socks and accessories) and they assume anyone over a size 14 wants to wear ankle length sludge coloured tents!!!!!
I dont have any problems with shoes though - Im a size 6/7 which the only problem is they sell out really quick!!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
I agree about the Beth Ditto stuff, I was not surprised to see it all on the sale rail when I went in this afternoon!
And for my huuuuge size 10 feet I dont have many other options but Evans for shoes, but to be honest I quite like most of them, and I usually find lots in the sale in my size!!! :j0 -

Isn't bullying at school, being made fun at in clubs, stared at in the gym etc etc etc not enough?
It's not negativity, it's reality. Wearing a blue catsuit when you are a size 30 is what is going to get you laughed at. (Not that anyone of any size would have looked good in that.) It's about wearing clothes that accentuate your good bits rather than clothes that scream 'look at me' about your bad bits.
Anyway, love this thread, it is so difficult finding decent bigger clothes that don't look drab and dreary. I'd love it if some of these sites/shops would start using bigger models so we can get a better idea about what it will actually look like on a bigger person.

Shoe Tailor do some of their range of shoes up to a 10 and Brantano usually have some 10's.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 1026 - Proud to be dealing with my debtsDebt at LMB: £22500. Yup that's completely true and totally my point. Maybe there are those 1 in a million women out there that could carry off the blue catsuit, but unfortunately I doubt they'd be the ones to buy it.
I've been told by lots of people that I am very good at selecting clothes for people of all different sizes, ages, tastes, etc and it really is about being yourself and knowing what suits you, but we need a wider choice of good clothing to be available in the first place.
As a big woman I'll admit I can't stand seeing very over weight ladies like myself dressed with fat bits hanging out in all the wrong places, heck even many slim ladies don't get their outfits right and end up looking bad (muffin top city in the summer time anyone), just because they may be desperate to wear something1 size smaller or hide under layers of chunky baggy clothes or something equally as simple that's very unflattering and not at all figure enhancing!
I also feel very sad about all the women who feel bad about how they look. I'm big and average looking, but I'm not unhappy about it.
I hate the idea that sooooo many people have - that if you are fat you can not possibly be a happy person and if you say that you are you must be lying. :rolleyes2A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
I have size 8 feet, and while normally I can easily find shoes, boots, sandals and trainers (though it doesn't help that I'm fussy) the only court shoes I've ever managed to find that fit where in the cheap shoe shops in a size 9, not the best designs or quality so I've never bought them.
Also whats with ankle straps on sandals - I tired on a pair the other month when I was looking for sandals to go with an outfit to wear to a wedding, and the ankle straps on the size 9's probably wouldn't have stretched round the ankles of a size 4 foot!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -

I've bought clothes from next and the quality is very good as you would expect. Im a size 24 in tops and skirts, but I've found a 24 skirt in next is too big which is great mentally that I need a smaller size! but their tops vary depending on style, sometimes a 24 will fit or be too big or too small, Give them a go, you can always take it back!***Dont save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving***0 -

I find their skirts a good fit but theyre tops and jackets i find too small, even in their size 24.***Dont save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving***0
