actually i WILL start on shoes...

what is it with retailers of mainstream shoes for women? i mean if i a woman needs a size 8 like i do, can they not possibly consider that her feet may be a bit wider as well as longer?

i can wear a mans shoe in 8 no problems but 90% of womens shoes size 8 are way too tight. yes evans does a more reasonable fit but evans shoes are expensive and generally most aren't my style anyway

i've pretty much given up buying womens shoes and buy plain black mens shoes or trainers but i'd love to have a lovely summery sandal once in awhile or some cute little court shoes without paying the earth for them!

I agree Evans shoes are not good value for money, the price is high compared to their qualify (same for their clothes,in my opinion).

Viva la Diva and Simply Be (part of JD Williams) do wider shoes, E and EEE fitting. Their prices are lower than Evans, and they have good sales.
Ann Harvey do EEE shoes as well.

Shouldn't it be the other way round, that clothes should fit the woman, and not the woman go on a diet to try and fit the clothes available, regardless of how she feels about her size?

Bon Marche do fab swimsuits that are great value compared to other shops!

Another thought re swimsuits for us larger ladies, if anyone has fashionworld, JDWilliams etc, they have a section called Crazy Clearance, and I have picked up my last couple from there. Gd thing is you can try at home in comfort. I ordered 20 swimsuits + 2 tankinis, and this may sound daft but the tankinis fitted brilliantly, - they were the shorts style bottoms + long length tops £12.00

I got my trackie bottoms in asda, cheap and cheerful, but surprisingly well fitting (both round the waist, and long enough in the leg for me too) and well made!

Re. Evans going down hill they recently had a range of clothes by Beth Dito including a royal blue catsuit, sorry ladies but I do not ever want to see anyone my size in that!

Wish we had a local Tesco and Salisbury's I could see the plus sizes in.

You have hit the nail regarding Evans, who the heck would want a lady who is a size 30/32 in a blue catsuit........ x
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

I think the main thing which stops me buying more online is the hassle of having to send stuff back if it doesn't fit. I don't mind taking a punt on things like t-shirts but for trousers expecially I just have to try them on as each shop/brand seems to be sized differently.

With Next you can return items brought on line in store. And also have items delivered to local store free. I understand how irratating it is to buy items tat dont fit then having to fork out more to return them. I think most high st stores allow you to return on line purchases. In the past i have done this with Office, House of frazers,& Miss Selfridges.

TK Maxx have a plus size area, has anyone checked here?

I know what you mean!! I'm a size 9 in shoes and often had to buy mens (until I discovered Crocs which I now seem to live in!!). I sometimes buy them from The Shoe Tailor though, have you tried them? It's part of the JD Williams group (Ambrose Wilson, Simply Be etc). They have all sorts of styles in various width fittings. It isn't too much of a pain to return stuff either, you can phone your local courier to pick up returns or take them to the post office.

They weren't cheap but I have managed to get boots and shoes for work from Evans, I was just glad to get some that didn't cripple my size 8 wide feet.

At shoeshop.com they sell a range of footwear by flyflot I buy my summer sandals from them.

Do we have to put up with such negativity about large women even here?
Isn't bullying at school, being made fun at in clubs, stared at in the gym etc etc etc not enough?

For sandals, I LOVE Birkenstocks. I have very wide feet, but the Birkenstock regular width sandals are fine one me-plus they have adjustable straps. I bought my first pair in the sale and they were £20. Am going to look in the outlet place in Portsmouth when I'm there on holiday over the weekend for some more. If not, I'll do a big order when I get home! It's the best time to buy them as everyone else is looking for boots!

Thanks to all the girls in the Cross Stitch Cafe! You're all fantastic! :A
  • Have discovered Duo - fabulous boots and shoes - everything is available in a variety of width fittings - they show you how to measure your feet and calves. They are a bit expensive but I bought two pairs of boots this time last year and wore them every day through the winter and into spring - spot of polish and they look like new. Just google them.
If you add yourself to the mailing list they send regular offers. As I said, more expensive (my boots were £120 per pair) but really great quality and built to last, plus the comfort is to die for - this is the first winter I've had in years when I've not had the typical depression of trying to find something good and comfortable - last year's are still great.
Thank you for this thread you have made my day with all these new outlets!
