That's the main thing I'm on the look out for at the moment, some nice jumpers and cardis for both work and casual wear. I'm around a size 24 and in previous years I've bought the standard v-necks from Evans but I've found they bobble very quickly. I also wasn't a fan of all their long chunky cardis with the fringes on them last year. Lovely long cardis but the fringe just wasn't too my taste. All the jumpers in Matalan and Yours have been a bit on the thin side and would look mis-shapen if you tried to layer with them. I'd even be happy with a nice tank top I could put over a blouse.
Perhaps I'm just being too picky. :rotfl:
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
Ive found some really nice knitwear in Asda recently, both for work and casual. My fav being a long grey sleveless cardie that i wore over a shirt today. In fact they had it in black too so may go buy that too!0 -
Just to say I LOVE Simply Be, especially the Joe Browns label. I have NEVER been disappointed with quality or fit! I tend to trawl through Ebay, as sometimes people sell stuff on with tags still attached - that they didn't send back in time! P.S. Since Inspire New Look went fashion victim Teeny I'v been having a hard time! Size 26 isn't easy to find - so few bargains to be had0

I agree about the inspire range, i'm around an 16-18 now but was a generous 22 a year or so back and New Look was always a good trusted shop for me. Problem is, they went too young and trendy and now they don't really sell anything I like. Trouble is there are so few handy high street alternatives now MK One and Etam have gone. River Island used to do a plus range many years ago, but stopped which was a shame. I am now 30 as well and find it difficult to find clothes that aren't frumpy, yet aren't too young. I have bought more from Peacocks than ever of late, and still do well from Debenhams designers range. As mentioned by other posters, I do also visit charity shops most days and have been really lucky over the years! I now sell all my larger clothes on ebay and judging by how little some of it has sold for, i'd say it's well worth a look out.0 -
Hi terra_ferma (re post 123) Wanted to reply earlier (but you know how etc) agree with the sentiments. But, I hate standing out in any way. Got really 'slim' once (8 - 10) and had the same feelings - chaps who I knew as friends (I thought) before started behaving differently and some female friends v hostile. Interesting subject though, and I love clothes. The child charity lady (name?) is instantly recognisable; and I love the materials, but again I just would never have the confidence to be so individual. Great thread; enjoying reading all the replies - thanks.0

I'm not that skillful. If I'd have tried the whole thing would have unravelled before the morning was out!
I managed it cos the fringes were just threaded through lol0 -
I buy work clothes from empire stores their 'so fabulous' range is ok. I look for things in the sale and then find a discount code to reduce them a bit more. Just ordered a parka coat in a 24 for £24 reduced from £45 and then another 15% off with a code. Ordered a knot frnt top with 3/4 sleeves too reduced to £10 then another 15% off with code.

I've added Empire to the list.

Great thread
I'm 34 and a 22(ish) with 32" legs - most of my tops right now are either Next, Asda or the South range from Littlewoods/Kays etc (Bargain Crazy is a great one - £2.99 for a South top the other month). I have found that some Boden jersey tops are an ok fit too. I have a lovely fitting pair of black suit trousers from Peacocks that are long enough to wear heels with - was surprised to find them up to a 24L, so it's well worth a look through the workwear even if the fashion bits don't cut it. I live in jeans though - and actually right now my best fit ones are Asda Smartprice - they again go up to a 24L if you can find the stock, but because they are Smartprice, no two pairs are quite the same (annoying when you find one that fits).
My size 9 shoes have come from, among others, Next & Brantano (got wellies there last year from the ladies section *faint*), normally end up with Crocs, DMs & Scholl for sandals (not a floaty person, lol), and K/Clarks for courts. Also, http://www.medissashoes.com/ go to an 11EE
For the lady looking for maternity wear - I didn't look at the range as I no longer need it, but I did notice the other day that NewNow (Simply Be group) had a banner for plus-size maternity on their homepage. Empire etc also appear to go to a 22 (and have different leg lengths). And, whilst I never had the pennies to try them, I was told good things about these people - they make to order to size 30+ - http://www.room42maternity.co.uk/.
My husband gets his size 15s in Josef Seibels, Birkenstocks and Pods, often ordered in via a friendly independant shoe shop, and is occassionally lucky in Brantano (HiTec are worth a look, although Brantano do seem to be trimming the bigger mens sizes). Also worth a look is http://www.walktall.co.uk/ (shoes to a 17, although clothes often stop short of plus sizes)
Big clothes come mostly from Georges (http://www.bigmen.co.uk/) as they have great customer service. He also has used http://www.bigteeshirt.co.uk/, http://www.largeandtall.co.uk/, and http://www.jonathoncharles.com/ (very helpful if you're near a store) in the past. These all carry a selection of smart and casual stuff, including a few 'alternative' t-shirts - so would cater for most ages.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
Thank you earthmother.
I had look at several of JD Williams sites to find maternity, but missed the one that actually has it!0
