Hi I'm looking for a new ladies watch (preferably with a red strap) and am struggling to find one with a long enough strap to go round my wrist (approx 8inches), do any of you have any suggestions where I might find a mid-priced one? I've looked on Amazon but most of the descriptions say 'standard length' which I'm pretty sure doesn't fit me!
    Thanks in advance x

have you thought about using a strap made of fabric which you could then fit to size?

  • Have you thought of buying a mans watch? I used to wear one for years (I really like the larger faces). Other than that, buy the one you like then wonder off to your local market - someone is bound to have a stall selling straps (they put them on for you and change batteries).

I have the same problem - I normally just about get the last hole done up, and then it can be tight - in fact I've been known to punch an extra hole in straps before now.

I have a Fossil watch with a good strap that I've worn daily for almost 3 years - I have two spare holes on it and it's not tight. Fossil do tend to be £60+ though.

For something cheaper take a look at Spirit - I have this one - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2835101/Trail/searchtext%3ESPIRIT.htm - I can only use the last hole, but it's not tight, and at £15 or 2 for £20 who can complain (there are some with red straps on Amazon) :)

Neither brand were described as a longer length strap, so it's worth trying a few on.

Fossil are very nice, my partner loves them and if wore a watch I would go for a Fossil.
  • All the watches I have, have been bought as presents from jewelers. They will send the watches back to the manufacturer for extra links, I have never been charged any extra for this

Hi, what a great thread. I haven't read all of it due to a very dodgy email connection and really wanted to post this before my lappy goes back on strike.:rotfl:
Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere but I have bought various items from rpeal(www.rpeal.co.uk)
I first came across this site when I needed a special dress that wasn't black or black and white for a TV show(guess what all my dresses were:rotfl:?)
I got two fantastic dresses three pairs of leggins(strictly for around the house) and a very glam top. Alongside with postage this all came in at £110.:j Delivery was speedy and service was excellent.
The clothes were great and the dress looked fab on TV.

So far so good......however, In early September I ordered more clothes from them (four leggins and two skirts).
Not so good. Delivery took over a week and there was only one(nasty skirt) Prior to getting this I had to send loads of emails which were all ignored. I had to resort to posting on my facebook wall to the owner. Loads more but won't bore you.
I got loads of comments about the dress after mastermind and know quite a few people who have bought from the site without any trouble so might have been just a glitch.
The new season stuff looks really nice. Hope this is of some use to someone.
They go from size 12 to 34.
    Take care,
    A x

Thank you for this. I have added it to the list, but with a warning.

If anyone else has feedback about them, please let us know.
I've never heard of them, but the look interesting.
  • I just wanted to say thank you so much for posting this thread! I had been severely limited to buying my clothes from Evans and Simply Be (both of which you can never be sure what size to buy cos they vary so much, also if it fits on the hips it doesn't on the waist or bust...sigh!) with the very occasional star find in Tesco or Asda. Previously I have shopped in Etam but that's disappeared and New Look - again the Inspire range seems to have disappeared and what I have seen recently I haven't liked anyway!

I am so excited about the fact that Next do a plus size range...rather sad really but it's one of the shops I most want to be able to wear clothes from cos then I can be 'normal'!! And i have already had a look and ordered something from the sale bit. How I did not know about this I do not know - there's a total lack of advertising it seems?!!

I need to take a day to have a browse of all the other websites and stockists about!!

Just buy a watch that you like (face wise) & have a longer strap put on it. You get to choose the colour, plus style/design etc so you'll never see anyone with the same one-brilliant! :T When I took my oh's watch in for a new strap they seemed to range from about £7 for plain leather to £25 for the more fancy ones. Not cheap, but will last & be comfortable for years.

actually i WILL start on shoes...

what is it with retailers of mainstream shoes for women? i mean if i a woman needs a size 8 like i do, can they not possibly consider that her feet may be a bit wider as well as longer?

i can wear a mans shoe in 8 no problems but 90% of womens shoes size 8 are way too tight. yes evans does a more reasonable fit but evans shoes are expensive and generally most aren't my style anyway

i've pretty much given up buying womens shoes and buy plain black mens shoes or trainers but i'd love to have a lovely summery sandal once in awhile or some cute little court shoes without paying the earth for them!

Hi Confuzzled - I too am a size 8 (in shoes only, alas!!!) :rotfl:and have had a lot of luck with Hotter shoes. Some of them are quite amazingly frumpy, but some are nice, plain, very hard-wearing shoes, and they even have some sandals (tho they're not a cheap company). I've also got some good shoes at independent retailers, especially those specialising in "end of line" shoes, which tend to be the large and small ones. For example, there's one in Oban called "Discount Footwear" and we go every time we're on holiday in Scotland!

    Happy hunting!
