Best Car Boot, Charity Shop and Jumble Sale Bargains - New Thread 4/10/09

Got my times mixed up, and the event was in the afternoon so I decided to try out Otley's afternoon boot sale. They were queueing to get in, which I thought was a good sign, but when I got in there looked to be about 6 stalls, which at 80p entrance I thought was rubbish. The first few stalls were just selling expensve tat, but I went round a corner and found another big area, which is where the bargains were. I got:
A fantasy three book set and another hardback - 1.50 total.
A nice lined wooden box, which I'll use for a jewellery box, I've been looking for one for ages £1, and a book 20p.
12 books for £4
4 gorgeous pendants, 3.50
A brooch and pair of earrings, £2
2 brooches (different stall) £1
a book 50p and pair of accessorize earrings, 50p
A big modern frosted blue decanter, 30p, I'll fill with sweets for my sister Christmas present.
Saw loads of nice clothes, but all far too small for me.
So I think I'll be checking that one out again! Spent a little bit more than I planned, but I don't regret any of the things I bought.0 -
I loved the dogs on the charity stall!
It runs all through winter too, so it might become a regular haunt! I've really got to stop buying books though, I've got over 200 now that I haven't read yet, although I do read about 4 a week.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
the one i goto on sunday had closed for the winter
and they didnt even bother to say anything last week on a poster or at the gates when theyre stood shaking their charity buckets for loose change.
did manage to find a couple more sales though..but failed to get any bargains just some old sci fi books for 10 each one is a heinlein 1st edition so might be worth hanging on to.0 -

Off topic but in case anyone is interested Poundland are doing a Bio Oil type product at the moment. I've bought some but not tried it yet. It looks exactly the same but with different packaging
I've heard of vintage vixen too but I can't think where. I'm enjoying looking at all your photos of recent bargains so thanks everyone. Our boot sales have stopped nowso I'm looking out for jumble sales

Just peeked at the local newspaper's online classifieds and there's two jumble sales and a car boot sale on tomorrow! :j
Hopefully I'll be sharing my bargains with my fellow second-hand loving friends xxxx0 -
In Marie Curie charity shop this morning found a brand new purple lined boucle type skirt suit by Irish designers Libra. Perfect fit and hangs beautifully. £10. The jacket will be fab with jeans. Chuffed to bits...again!0
