Not a bargain, but I was in our local hospice shop today and noticed a woman looking at a box full of fur coats (real fur). The SA said something along the lines of being unable to sell them, so this woman was trying them on. She then proceeded to make off with about 4 or 5 coats, saying they all fitted (eye roll) and didn't pay a penny for them!!! The SA's were all speechless that she didn't even offer to make a donation - and so was I. The SA said they don't sell them because they don't want to create a demand for them, but although I am very anti-fur personally, I think I'd rather a charity shop made some money from them than let some fly-by-night chancer grab them, quite obviously to sell on eBay. I guess the SA's mistake was saying they couldn't be sold - it would have been better to say the woman could have ONE coat for a small donation.0

hello Joyce, I agree or they could have given them to a dogs home-apparently animals like to sleep on them!0

How rude of her Joyce, some people are awful!
I went charity shopping today and bought a lovely fitted 50s knitted camel colour skirt - very IN for next season. I saw almost the exact same skirt (but new) in my magazine for £35 last night. Mine was about £3 (will post pics when its light enough as it doesn't show up well using a flash)
Also got a nice blue & black t-shirt dress for £2
Topshop dress for £3.50 - perfect for summer beach wear over a bikini or wearing over a long sleeved top with thick wool tightsNot been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/1550 -
Oh my, that's so awful. I feel guilty when I go into charity shops and I don't buy anything and sometimes I end up leaving a small donation.
I could never do that.0 -
There are three great charity shops local to my workplace and I've recently got a couple of real bargains there. 1) Friends edition of Scene It, DVD board game. My daughter is avid fan of Friends however given the other presents she was getting for Christmas I wasn't planning on spending £23.00 on this. Was chuffed to find it in the charity shop for £5.00. All intact, the corners of the box were a little scuffed but she never noticed. 2) Also got a copy of the Unofficial Guide to WDW 2010 for £1.99. It's usually £15.99 and as we are going in October this year we would have bought a copy. Friends bought us a copy of the Brits Guide for this year for Christmas too.
Don't know if this ever happens to anyone else but it seems that I can go around charity shops looking for something specific, don't find it, buy it elsewhere and then a couple of weeks/months later find one in there. Twice it has happened to me recently. My daughter (12) wanted to read Pride and Prejudice. I have a copy but found that when we sat down to read it was difficult to get a flow going because she was constantly asking for an explanation. I couldn't read the script in my copy so was looking for second hand one to read along with her. Ended up buying one from a market stall (brand new actually but half price). Went into charity shop a couple of weeks later and they had three copies! Also my daughter managed to corrupt one of her Friends' DVD discs. I had a scour around the charity shops to no avail. Bought it (very cheaply though) from Ebay and then this week - yes that's right the exact DVD is in the charity shop. Very strange.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

My local charity shops often have items/bags left in the doorways on Sundays - later on they've always been taken. Guess some people have no morals.0 -
This is how sad some people are! In one of my shops today someone has ripped open a brand new Boots lilac giftset to remove and steal the bath scruncie out of it. To top it off, there were two new tagged scrunchies on the shelf next to it but they obviously wanted the lilac one, not the blue or white ones! Not been here in years! Hi everyone. they are clearly awful people! I always say I dont get much of a CS haul these days but thinking about it, I do-there is a Salvation Army CS a couple of roads away from me (a random location) and I am always buying tonnes of paperbacks in there for 50p each, when I've finished with them I take them back there!0

Very good write up for cashmere items from Marks and Sparks in the Daily Mail (Thursday). I managed two cashmere items, one for £3 (as new), the other new with tags for £4 in local charity shops. Would have originally cost around £100!!Saving money right, left and centre0 -
It is awful to see how low some people can go, stealing from a charity shop has got to be the lowest!
lulu, well done on finding cashmere in a charity shop, that's always eluded me thus far. I did however do OK in M&S's final reductions sale this week, picking up a beautiful pair of black pure cashmere trousers for £9 - they were originally £99. They are just about the most amazing things I've ever worn too.:D0
