Best Car Boot, Charity Shop and Jumble Sale Bargains - New Thread 4/10/09

I am new to this but love car boots and love to hear what people buy.
This week I bought:
a bathroom cabinet for £2
a toaster for £1.50 (4 slot chrome one) - am usually dubious about electrical but sometimes its worth the risk
some next curtains for £4 for my girls bedroom
some books for 50p each
I also bought a trendy floral bag on wheels from a shop to take with me (not the sort of thing I would use in the town but loads of younger people use these at carboots). It certainly saves my arms and its great for putting books and other heavy objects in there.
I take my 10 year old son with me every week - he loves bargains and great at haggling lol.0 -
hii all
Popped into town to get my haircut today and couldnt resist having a peep in the charity shops. I tend to walk out of town slightly as the ones in town are horribly expensive. 10pounds for a well worn primark jumper? No thanks!!
* River Island soft baby pink jumper dotted with sequins 2pounds.
* St Michaels note/letter set (still in wrapping) 90p
* Pink and blue beaded photo frame (brand new as part of my nans xmas pressie) 1pound.
Got some gold cute anchor buttons too! Not from a charity shop, but from a cute little sewing shop (love those places) gonna customise a couple of cardigans this evening.
In two minds whether to go to a table top this evening. Its advertised as a equine sale (not into horses) but it says theres gonna be other bits and pieces there.
My OH is back from his trek across Scotland tonight so ill be spending the rest of the week with him. Might try and slip away Friday afternoon for the jumble sale hehe!

I thought the charity shops here were expensive, yours sound even worse!
I had to go to the hospital today and there was a sign up advertising a jumble sale on the 14th, I wouldn't have taken any notice before reading this thread, but now I'm looking forward to it!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
:Dhiya
does anyone know if a dior vanity case ( if its not a knockoff ) is worth putting on ebay, and how ide know if its a knockoff. i only bought it cos it was 50p and reconised the name from ab fab LOL
hope this kind of message is allowd.0 -
yea i realise they have over heads too. but its all donated. they dont pay for it. maybe 100 percent mark up is a bad phrase and didnt relay what i meant. my point being, as long as theyre happy with what they get then its better then being sat on the shelf.
85 quid for a 400 pound bag is a bargain. one ide have been proud to put on here lol
We tend to sell most things at about 70% of the price they might have been originally as a rule but its nice to see customers pleased with their bargains and they will always come back and also tell their mates what a great thing they found so its worth it. The lady who bought the bag was chuffed to bits
The only trouble with getting everything sold quickly at the moment is that donations to (most) charities have dropped significantly since the recession so they are not getting so much stuff in but I do see your point and agree to some extentNot been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/1550 -

I found a new charity shop today, an independent one. Stuff very reasonably priced for the area. Friendly staff, with a lovely lady carefully wrapping my bracelet as if it cost £50 not the 50p I paid for it!
The botanical book (I love botanical illustration) £1, the pink bag £2 and the bracelet 50p.
The black boucle suit from M&S was £8. Will change the buttons on the jacket.
And in another charity shop I got this Monsoon embroidered denim jacket for £8.
Detail from jacket
I'm going back again tomorrow!0 -
Hi, Yes DAKS is a bit of a posh make
well done you! I got a fantastic camel colour 50% wool + 50% cashmere full length coat for 50p today
very pleased! winter is sorted
Where are these cheap charity shops? Round here that coat would have been at least a tenner! And it's not like Leeds is posh!
Penny Farthing, I love that jacket!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
