A charity shop I frequent is stupidly cheap, the lady in charge said she would rather sell everything than rag it, if she gets decent china in she sells it herself on ebay (and gives the shop the money)as 'she knows a bit about that' interestingly her shop is always packed with donations and shoppers, where as the rather chic charity shop which a friend of mine runs is priced at full price for anything..and never is 'packed' she is an ebayer herself and knows what sells, but the amount of very decent things that get ragged makes my eyes water :( - i know they get money for rags but not as much as if they were to sell it for even 30p an item :(

    Lovely finds, Penny!

I've had a day out chazzing with a friend in a posh city. The shops were quite pricey but we've had a lovely day and had a few amazing finds (and the cash goes to deserving causes).

    I bought:
Office brand new tapestry knee-high boots £10
Vintage oversized blue clutch bag £7.50
    Vintage chunky-heeled navy wellies £2.95
Hand made choker with the designer's card presented in a gift box £3 (great gift)
    Pyrex stove top percolator £3.50

Why don't charity shops pick up on stuff like this? They are missing out on good money.

Some do, but some don't have the training available to them and are often just run by volunteers alone.

100% mark up is not correct Gaz70 though, even charity shops pay rates (although reduced), utilities, waste, wages if not run by volunteers.

But I love a bargain in charity shops too so the one's who are not trained are great for the bargain lovers

Selling a designer bag for a great price happens a lot more than you would think, one of my shops sold one today for £85 on my valuation as thats the price it would have sold for on ebay. Someone still got a great bargain as it would have been at the very least £400 new. It had only been out a day so it was not sitting around for a long time either, we probably could have asked more but we still want our customers to get bargains so they come back for more
Not been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/155

yea i realise they have over heads too. but its all donated. they dont pay for it. maybe 100 percent mark up is a bad phrase and didnt relay what i meant. my point being, as long as theyre happy with what they get then its better then being sat on the shelf.
85 quid for a 400 pound bag is a bargain. one ide have been proud to put on here lol

Wow Goanmad, looking at your blog now, those tapestry boots are fab!

I'd never have thought of checking out charity shops and things abroad!

Just read the tip for cleaning costume jewellery, I'll have to give it a go, I've got lots of tarnished silver plate but couldn't find anything to clean it with.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
