Mobiles.co.uk - deliberately misleading advert?

  • True to form, one week after they read my letter, I still have had no reply from the Customer Srevice dept. They are failing at the very basic levels of service !

Anyway I contacted the "Executive Office" at Orange who seemed very helpful and pro-active, they asked me to send them any information I have to them. They would investigate my case and then contact MOBILES.CO.UK if need be, I asked that they copy me on their findings. eventhough they cant help me personally, any decision they make might help.

I just sent yet another email to MOBILES customer service asking for them to respond and requesting again that they cancel due to mis-selling.

The very least they could do is reject my claim and explain why !!!

    Yet again waiting . . .

They are updating their site today I think by looks of it.

But if you go there and search for HTC Hero deal, the "Best Deal" has finally changed to this

    Free HTC Hero
    Your Plan 300 (24 months)
    Line rental £12.50 by redemption

Look closer at the details of the tariff in the table below - its 24 months at 25 months, with 12 months half price

    That is 25x12 + 12.50x12 = 450

    450 / 24 = £18.75 per month

ITS STILL NOT RIGHT - Am I missing something?

    Hi Overkill,
I can't see them cancelling it myself !!!
You need to tell them that you are cancelling it and why you are.
At the same time you should inform Orange that you are cancelling it and why etc.
I would also take a copy of the latest offer that OnaADay has pointed out and use that to show that they are still using missleading ads to sell phones.
It's not just about the money
  • Have they changed this now?

    Makes sense to me...

    Normal price £40 a month..

For 14 months you only pay £20 then £40 for the final 10 months?

Makes sense to me, Shame i cannot work out why BT line rental charges for 3 months
are £50.69 when its only £11.25 a month??

If it says the normal price is £40 per month then they have changed it.

Previously it didnt mention the "full" monthly charge anywhere.

I dont think Photo Stylus is looking at the right portion of the site (or perhaps still considering the originally offering mentioned at the start of the thread). What PS has not said is what he/she thinks is the actually monthly cost per month after redemption.
  • Here is my latest update...

Spoke to Orange 2 or 3 times now, they agree that the MOBILES.CO.UK website is/was far too misleading and that they take that sort of thing extremely seriously, so this was escalated within Orange from the Executive office to another department who I was assured WOULD be in contact with MOBILES.CO.UK

MOBILES.CO.UK now seem to be changing the website as per my original complaint over 3 weeks ago, I’m assuming because now it’s been brought to their attention, they can no longer pretend it’s not misleading, but also because they have been told to by Orange. Whatever the reason, in my mind it is an admission that there WAS something wrong, which they are now rectifiying.

I emailed MOBILES.CO.UK on Monday, to tell them that Orange would be contacting them and to ask them again, on that basis, to please reconsider my request for some sort of compensation to balance “What they sold me” and “what they are planning to charge me” ! ..... Guess what . . . . Nothing ! They just ignored my mail (like every other one) . I sent another one first thing this morning stating that I could now see that the website was changing and still nothing.

This must be the worst Customer Service ever ! An absolute disgrace and my problem with them is now becoming more about their appalling service and the frustration they are causing me, If they had the decency to reply to my letters etc in the first place, I would never have contacted Orange.

I have even asked that if they don’t believe I have a case to please tell me along with their reasons so that I can then stop emailing them direct.

While I’m waiting for another reply (that wont come) I’m thinking of emailing the Charles Dunstone address at CPW, and ask him if he knows just how badly MOBILES.CO.UK are treating his customers and to make him aware that Orange are involved. Apparently this email address can get things moving (similar to the Executive office and Orange). Anyone heard that too ?

You'll wait for a personal reply from Charlie Dunstone - he has just got married and is probably on honeymoon! :j Hope his bride read her pre-nup t & c !:heartsmil
  • Can anyone who has has the misfortune to have delt with MODILES.CO.UK happen to have an email address for somemone within MODILES.CO.UK that can by-pass the "Customer Service" department ? . . . .where I might actually get a reply to an email ?

PLease let me know. PM me if you'd prefer

. . . . it must be against the law, or code of conduct for the mobile phone industry, to just ignore me ! I know phoning can take an hour or 2 but its getting to the stage where I might have to. ( actually starting to look forward to it mind you)

Anyway if you've got something let me know, looks like I'll have to wait a week or 2 till I send Mr Dunstone my email..... should be in a good mood when he gets back mind you
  • So here’s my latest and for anyone who can’t be bothered to read the rest of the MOBILES.CO.UK threads, be warned....don’t go there.

I have sent about 3 emails every week to “customer services” since I my recorded delivery letter was read (3 weeks ago) and then ignored , and these emails were also ignored. Anyway, in response to my letter today all they said was to try and explain the cash back / redemption scheme, tell me everything is in their Terms and Condition and then lie about what was printed in my order ! I have no problem with any of that ! (except the lying bit) . . . I waited 3 weeks to read something I read 4 weeks ago when I bought the k’ing phone !

But what actually made me LOL for real was when “they” said they couldn’t cancel my contract because .... “you are now over the 14 day cancellation policy” .. . . . THEY TOOK 21 DAYS TO REPLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! Is that all about ! . . . if only these freaks sold time machines then we could all deal with them J

They ignored what I was actually asking/complaining about, which was the misleading way they sell !!! The thing is, I have spoken to Orange and they agree with me, (they were brilliant) but after a month of worry and being treated like !!!! by MOBILES.CO.UK I’m getting more and angry as the weeks go on. I’m stuck them for 2 years, but they are also stuck with me for 2 years.

I won’t give up on this because they now have now changed the website as per my complaint and Orange themselves have roasted them . . . . and they still “play” dumb with me and continually seem to quote their T+C’s . . . . .

It may however interest users and readers on this forum, but even after I told them about the bad press they get here, they seem completely unbothered by what is said about them on this forum, what that says about them, or this forum, I’m not sure. ? But surely even this thread alone (ignoring all the others) must cost them sales ! Maybe they have enough sales, they can afford to lose some . . . . might free up the customer services a bit mind you.

Still at least I’ve opened a line of communication now ! but I've had enough tonight . . . . . "they drive me to it" ;-)
