My wife and I were allowed to stay over as teens and now I think our parents were irresponsible as it contributed to my wife getting pregnant very young.

Though obviously, not as much as you did.

Slightly off topic, but as parent do you have a right to tell your child (presuming they are 16+) they are not allowed to stay the night at their boyfriend/girlfriends house, as well as your own?
You have a right to tell them. Whether they then do what they're told is a different matter...

I would say that at 18 they are adults and as long as they are sensible and safe, another little talk about STD,s and pregnancy wouldn,t go amiss even at this age, then theres nothing wrong with it.
My son is 18,nearly 19, and still asks permission to stay out overnight and when he wants to bring friend or girlfriends home to stay over.I have told him that he is 18 so an adult, this is his home too so he can treat it as such and do what he likes.
Its really nice of him to still ask permission as it shows he respects us but all he has to do is inform us who else is in the house so that OH(who doesnt wear PJ,s) doesnt walk about in just his undies when he goes to the loo or kitchen during the night.
We also make a point of knocking the bedroom door in the morning and saying hi as I am nosey and like to see who has been staying over in the house. We also always ask the girl if her parents know where she is and give her the opportunity to use the phone to inform mum where they are.I remember being a teenager,it wasn,t that long ago, and just going out on a Fri to a party and making a weekend of it,maybe not getting home till sunday and not really understanding why my mum was frantic with worry. So for that reason I always ask the girls if mum knows where they are.
Oh and please dont have double standards for your son and daughter. If you wouldnt allow your daughter to have a boy stay over then dont allow your son to have a girl stay over, his girlfriends are somebody else daughters afterall.
