Tesco short changed us....

The same mistake happened to me in Tesco, a couple of years ago.
The girl called a supervisor and they closed the till there and then.
I was politely asked if I would mind waiting while they checked the till and the cash in it.
Of course I didn't mind.
I was then ushered to the cafeteria, and give a cup of tea.
After about ten minutes I was given my £10 note.
Easily resolved, but sounds like things have changed.

I stood my ground and said at the till, but the person could not give me any more money till they had cashed up the tills when they had finished their shift. I went home and rang customer serivces at the local store and explained what had happened the person had finished their shift by then and they had cashed up. They did find that there till was up by £10 so I went to the store and collected. They were very helpful and polite even though it could not have been sorted out at the time.
Ditto.
If it's correct when they cash up though I doubt you'll get anything. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
That's odd. Usually when I give over a banknote the assistant holds the note and says "ten pounds" or "twenty pounds" before it goes into the till and they make the change. Back in the olden days when I worked a Saturday job in Woollies we were trained to have the banknote on the shelf above the change-drawer and only put the note away after we'd handed over the correct change. This stopped the cheeky-chancers in their tracks.0

I had something along the same lines where they did a 'Z' reading (I think that's what it was called anyway) and took the till out and replaced it with a new float, 15 minutes and a coffee and bacon muffin later all sorted and I got my correct money back.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -

The problem now is that many till assistants are so busy asking about loyalty cards, school vouchers, cash back, money off coupons, insurance etc, they take their eye off the primary reason they are there.0 -

What if that was all the cash you had and you needed to get a bus/train or cab home?
If a mistake was made then it should be checked and put right straight away, not at the end of the shift.
Surely a modern computerized till should know at any time how much cash it contains?Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
It knows how much it SHOULD contain, but the only way to work it out is to count it and see if it's up by ~£10 - but Tesco's aren't going to want to have 5 minutes paying a cashier to count a closed till unnecesarily.
Its not unnecesarily.
It needs checking because someone says they are a tenner down.
Once I walk away from the till I am at the mercy of any chancer that fancies pocketing the money and calling ME a liar.
No thanks, lets count it NOW while I am watching.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -

that is very true! at work atm, we have to ask if they want saving stamps, cashback, and if they are collecting the school vouchers for growing things. it gets a bit much with all of the add-ons we have to ask about,it drives me mad!
i always say to the customer,£10 note or £20, and then keep it to one side and then count their change back to them0 -

This happened to someones till at my work- it had to be cashed up straight away but, and I would imagine this is the same for most places- you wouldn't have been able to watch it be counted as it can't be counted on the shop floor in case of theft and not being allowed to share any information on takings etc outside of work.0
