  • I have just spent a long time on the phone to Nationwide explaining that their new ofx download doesnt work with MS Money. Their response was that that isnt their problem, as they dont support Money. In fact they dont support any interface, so if ofx is useless, thats not their problem.

What is worse is that the csv format no longer works with MT2OFX, so I am now completely screwed. Great, thanks Nationwide.

Try opening the OFX file in Notepad or in any software that supports XML. Compare with a correctly formatted OFX file from another source. If you analyse this, you can see exactly where Nationwide are getting it wrong. If you then tell Nationwide their precise error in their OFX format, without making reference to MS Money, then they might just forward your comments to their developers and fix it. I tried this with Amex once, and it worked.

I just tried and I wouldn't even know where to begin describing the differences!

Nationwide's version is a load of gibberish that are on 4 lines that go on for ages whereas one from another bank (that works) is gibberish which is on loads of lines with not much on each line.

Maybe someone who understands what all the various "</FITID>" etc. mean would make more sense of it.

Maybe its intended for Intuit Quicken, the version where you bank has to pay license fees to Intuit before they are allowed to create such files.

I'm still on the old version of the site, so I can't check :(

If you are prepared to do a bit of extra work, then you can copy-paste the statement into Excel and use XLS2QIF (excel add-in) to convert it to a qif file that can be imported into MMoney.

Link to xls2qif. This is an old add-in but will work in Office XP and Excel 2010.

If anybody's interested in reading about the OFX standard to see if they can see the problem with Nationwides files, further info can be found here.

At the moment I'm still on the old system, but I've saved a CSV file to see if I can spot the difference when that changes.

Thought I might find some of you here again!

It looks as though the developer of mt2ofx maybe no longer supports or enhances it. There has been a message about the Nationwide changes on the mt2ofx forum for the past few days with no response from the author, or responses to any older posts about other issues either.

Yes, Nationwide have slightly modified the CSV download format, making the current scripts incompatible. I've worked out what the changes are and have now modified the scripts I've been using up until recently to make them work again. They are available here

    http://www.mediafire.com/?k5tyjf6zpvbu5

There are three scripts, and between them they will handle Flexaccount, e-Savings, InvestDirect, ISA and Credit card. Just download them to your Program Files/mt2ofx folder and then use the mt2ofx script options to enable them. If they don't appear in the list you'll need to go 'New', navigate to the file and select it. It will appear at the top of the list with a blank name, but then just press 'Update' to make it appear properly.

You'll need to do a little bit of configuration inside the scripts before using them. In the 'Multi' (which handles Flexaccount, e-Savings and ISA) and InvestDirect files you need to replace 'xxxxxxxx' (search for it) with your own 8-digit account numbers (14 digits for ISA including a '/'). Actually I think you can use any account numbers you like so long as something exists in the script and that number in the script exactly matches the one defined in Account setup in Money. In that way the data should import no problem.

In the Credit card (CC) one you need to go near to the end of the file and replace '48939' with the first 5 digits of your Nationwide credit card. You'll most likely need to change it to '44935' since many Nationwide credit cards start with that, however I've just been given a newer style one with a different starting number. Then make sure that you enter your full credit card number within the Scripts - Parameters for this file within mt2ofx. Credit card for some reason imports with Money asking you which account you want to import into. Not yet sure why because it never did before and the script hasn't changed that much, but not really a problem.

All's working as good as it ever did for me, hope it does for you too. Still lament the loss of direct import from within Money itself though!
  • Hello rpb424, you helped me last time and I think I may need your help again. I have downloaded the files thank you for that but I don't know what I need to do to them to make them work. If you could kindly explain what I need to do I would be very grateful. Thank you Ciaerda

I'll try and explain step by step.....

    1. Copy the downloaded files into your Program Files/MT2OFX folder, overwriting any identically named files.

    2. You need to edit these files (Right-Click on them and select Edit). In the 'Multi' and InvestDirect files you need to search for 'xxxxxxxx' (using Edit - Find) and replace those 'x's with your account number for the account shown in the line above. The 'multi' file has three lots of 'x's for Flexaccount, e-Savings and ISA, the InvestDirect file only has it once. Don't worry about accounts you may not have, they shouldn't matter and the 'x's can stay. In the credit card script (NationwideCC-csv) you need to search for '48939' (near the end of the file) and replace this with the first 5 digits of your credit card if they are different to this. Remember to save the files before exiting them.

    3. Double click on mt2ofx.exe in the Program Files/MT2OFX folder to open the application. Click on 'Options' and then 'Scripts'. Not all of the script files will appear yet in the list matching the names of the ones you downloaded since InvestDirect is new. For this and any others that aren't there then click 'New', select a missing file and 'Open it'. A new blank entry should appear at the top of the list. Now click 'Update' to make it valid. If you are using the 'NationwideCC-csv' script (which is for the Credit card account) you will need to highlight this file in the list and then press 'Parameters' and make sure your credit card number is correct. Once again make sure all three scripts are ticked. You may well have other unticked ones in the list relating to other banks.

    4. If this doesn't happen already then you need to make sure that the csv files you download from Nationwide automatically open with mt2ofx rather than the default which would probably be Excel. If you download a file from Nationwide and Right-Click 'Open With ' 'Choose Program' on it you can then select what you want to open it with. Navigate to the Program Files/MT2OFX folder and select mt2ofx.exe. Then make sure you tick 'Always use this program for this file type'. It may be that this bit already works for you since you've been using it thus far.

There shouldn't be any more to do than that, but let me know how you get on! I've written this based on Windows XP, but hopefully if you are on a newer Windows version then it won't be too much different.
