No, 080 and 0500 calls are free at all times, regardless of how often you top up.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I presume you have tried 'saynoto0870.com' ? It really is a matter of trying to track down the company and finding alternative numbers. Their website is normally a good starting point, looking perhaps for overseas contact numbers.Thank you for reading this message.0 -

If you follow the links you will see this service could be useful http://www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1347646033
Or you could use www.saynoto0870.com to see if an alternative is listed.
But their is not a cheap call supplier that supplies cheaper calls to these numbers.0 -
There is a free bit of software from Jembasoft called “Call Cost Reducer” that searches the popular UK and German sites for these numbers in their respective countries.
Works pretty much the same way as saynoto0870 does. The only difference is this software has a built-in phone book for saving the numbers locally (offline) and a V-Card generator for sharing numbers with mobile phonebooks and outlook directories. Also it sorts the numbers by Freephone first.
The ‘Call Cost Reducer’ software can be downloaded here for free: http://www.jembasoft.com/ccr.php
Also, not sure if they’ve been mentioned, but some websites for other European countries
Ireland: http://www.saynoto1890.com/
Spain: http://www.nomasnumeros900.com/
Netherlands: http://www.vraagalex.nl/index.php?p=anti
Unfortunately not all of these sites are easy to navigate, but if you copy the website URL into the Google translate box, you have some idea of where you are navigating round the sites0 -

It operates on the basis that users submit alternatives that they find and so the site acts to share them.0 -
Hi
Not sure if this has already been answered as there are lots of posts for this thread?
Checking on the 'Say No' website there is an alternate number provided for a 0845 number. The alternate number begins 01.
I am currently on the BT free evening and weekend plan.
When I check on the BT website, calls during the day to 0845 numbers cost 2.042 and 01 numbers cost 8.41 pence per minute.
So unless I have missed something here, it seems I am better off sticking to the 0845 number.
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks

Your costings are correct.
However, you are missing the fact that your 01/02/03 calls would cost only 5p each (regardless of duration) if you had a 18185 account too.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
