Would dialling 17070 offer any clues? Does this work on CPS lines?
Anyone on Sky care to report what they hear?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
The issue of customer service lines using 084 and 087 prefixes should be resolved later this year. Article 21 of Directive 2011/83/EU on Consumer Rights states:
Member States shall ensure that where the trader operates a telephone line for the purpose of contacting him by telephone in relation to the contract concluded, the consumer, when contacting the trader is not bound to pay more than the basic rate.
The government plans to enact this directive in the UK later this year, earlier than previously planned because of Article 19 which covers card surcharges.
The interpretation of "basic rate" may need close scrutiny, particularly in light of phrases such as "local rate" and "national rate" having been misleadingly used in the past for 0845 and 0870 numbers. The wording of the legislation in the UK will need to prevent such bending of the truth without mentioning specific prefixes. Perhaps instead of "basic rate", it could say "rate to a geographic telephone number".0 -
When the legislation is published, maybe those with a bit more technical / legal knowledge can check it out and make sure it says the right thing. If not, we could lobby our MPs for an (agreed) amendment. If we ask for an amendment we must all ask for the same thing otherwise it will cause confusion and weaken the case.Thank you for reading this message.0

What is the issue? Is it timing out or do you get some other message?0 -
I have just tried it. I can get to the front page, but not the search page.
Last week it went down, I understand due to volume of traffic to the site. It is a matter of keep trying, and hopefully it will return.
(It always goes down just as you need it. When you don't want it - it works perfectly!!!)
- gone back and it has now got to the search page ... slow loading!Thank you for reading this message.0 -
