On the basis that probably not many people remember the number for CiN and RND from one year to the next, why not start a completely new number with 03? 0312 345678 for example, presuming all numbers are available.
Life is about compromises; weighing up pros and cons of solutions.

When done one way, there will always be those come along and say that it should have been done the other way!

I agree with you that not everyone is logical. Those who aren't logical tend to be the ones that offer such criticism without appreciation of the pros and cons.

The logical people tend to accept that it can be the case that you can't offer a solution that has all good and no bad (and therefore you can't please all of the people all of the time).

Thanks for pointing out the useful saynoto0870 site.
I know I'll find it helpful.

...but Google dropped a blob when they placed an advert for Google Adwords at the bottom of the page. It said 'Call 0844... now!'

It's been getting very well-deserved mentions in the press and the BBC for years - several reference in this thread, for example, back in 2006 and probably earlier.

One of the most useful sites on the net.
  • Hi, apologies if this has already been discussed : I'm just trying to get my call charges (inc. 0845) under control.

In the article, it describes step 2 as routing via BT to get free 0845 weekend calls, but says you must make one chargeable call to get this "upgrade". Does anyone know where on BT site this is described ? [And why does Martin describe it as an upgrade ?]

I did find a reference to making two calls per month to avoid a £1.50 fee, but perhaps that was for services such as 1571. (I remember they initially gave me that free, then I noticed they were charging me for it since I wasn't incurring call charges with them, so got that service cancelled.)

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Thanks. Does the charge apply even if BT are not the default call carrier ? Or once I start using BT for free weekend 0845 calls, will that trigger the charge on months that I don't make two calls ?

If your line rental is with BT, yes.

If you use BT to make 0845 calls, they count as qualifying calls.
