I think it is 147 ???Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi Heinz,
Thanks for that, I always use the "overseas" number and never have any problems...
Perhaps the HMRC need to raise more money ?
I also thought that most compainies now also need to supply a non income generating number ??0 -

Hi there, I'm with Orange Home Ultra, I get free calls to 30 countries through my router but unfortunately I'm charged for 0845/70 calls
Basically what I want to do is the opposite of everyone else, I want to call an international access number to get through to the 0845/70 number. Does anyone know if there are any numbers that do this?
can supply list of free call countries if required. Thanks!!!0 -

The best advice I can give you is to join in SAYNOTO0870.COM. Look-up alternatives and join the forum to post updates and ask for help finding other numbers not listed.
Even if you find such a service, calls to 0844/3 (and 0871/2) numbers will still be chargeable and it is these types that are being used more and more, particularly since the subsidy to the receiver was removed from 0870 and it's only small on 0845.0 -

Dave, are you saying the company used to have to pay to receive a NG call, but now they don't?
Does this apply to to the 'get-around' numbers, eg 0871 and 0844 etc.?Thank you for reading this message.0 -

The subsidy on 0844 is a bit less than that which was on 0870 prior to August 2009 and it is this type of number which is popular and often used as a replacement to 0870 (and 0845).
I've elaborated here with small text in parentheses. I posted recently a more in-depth explanation on SAYNOTO0870.COM here. In that text I've used the word "toll" and this is what I refer to here as "subsidy".0 -
Granted that calls made to 03 numbers are the same as 01 and 02. Why are some organisations (I think of the BBC as a prime example) confusing the issue by giving out numbers eg 0345 and 0370 which suggests they are premium numbers?Thank you for reading this message.0

0370 and 0345 numbers are direct replacements for previously-used identical 0870 and 0845 numbers (the digit 3 replaces the digit 8 in each case).
For example, 0370 010 0200 used to be 0870 010 0200.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
