Presumably not available for PAYG option. My credit is about to run out (Asda), and looking for someone cheaper!

No but www.giffgaff.com offer free access to 0800/0808/0500 freephone numbers so if you went on their basic tariff (no goodybag) you could use http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php via their 08 access number for cheaper 01/02/03 0845/0870 calls and weekend mobile calls.

0844/0871 you would normally have to place via GiffGaff but this service might help you

Calls to 08 numbers (including 0800 and 0808) are chargeable but saynoto0870.com takes care of that ;-)

No need to use Say no to get alternatives to call 0800/0808/0500
numbers from your mobile. You can use this or similar.http://www.0800buster.co.uk/

and this might be helpful http://www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1347646033

so in a lot of cases using i card the most your pay to call 08 numbers is 3p a minute via geographical access numbers.

Just as I do to phone Spain from my Giffgaff mobile - 4p connection + 1p/minute (the same as from my home landline).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

It maybe me, but have just gone onto their site and can't find a basic / no goodybag option. I use my mobile very infrequently, so want a PAYG tarrif.

    Cheers

It would seem the cost to make a call to a non-giffgaff customer is 10p per minute and 6p per text, which is what Asda charge.

    Am I missing something?

Yes, you're missing the use of 18185's freephone access number (0808 1 703 703) - which, similarly to the calls to Spain I mentioned above, means calls to UK 01/02/03 could be made for 5p connection + 1p/minute from a Giffgaff mobile.

jhp mentioned this in post #702.

    Thanks for that Heinz.

If I don't top up after 3 months, will I lose the freephone calls? I am not concerned with other giffgaff users, because I am not aware of any!
