DG when I lived over there I heard lots of noise one day and looked out of my window....hoards of people cheering a huge papier mache fish going along on the top of a big float

They went along to the harbour where the "boquerone" (the fish)got blown up..cue loads of fireworks:rotfl:
It was apparently a ritual custom to bring luck to the fishermen every year.

That's what you call a varied diet! DS was staying at school for an event last night so saved his packed lunch till teatime. Went to shops for lunch, as 6th formers are allowed to do this. Asked what he had...'Traditional' (don't get him started!! Wrong ingredients according to him) Cornish Pasty and 3 gingerbread men for 99p. Total cost somewhere over £2. He doesn't do this very often, so I'm not that bothered. He would rather have his packed lunch than either school canteen or go to the shops.
Ha when I was in 6th form me and my 2 friends would pool our money and buy one half french stick, one iced donut and portion of chips for lunch! We would share it out between us
not everyday mind!
It was a lovely morning here but has turned overcast and chilly now.
I've got an easy day in work, just sorting paperwork this afternoon whilst listening to radio. Me and a colleague met an old colleague for lunch today in a new little cafe and had a gorgeous lunch. Just simple jacket spud, with cheese and coleslaw, but it was a huge spud, very generous toppings and came with a mini salad bowl too, that plus drink just £4
but I've kinda ruined dinner as that was meant to be jacket! think I'll make pizza instead.
My car is in for MOT and I was kinda worried about cost, but they just rung and said I need new spark plugs and leads thats all
I may have to leave car there overnight, but its only 20min walk home so thats fine. I also found a voucher this morning in local paper for the MOT to be £29 rather than normal price
with no re-test fee
Feel bad mentioning this when others haven't slept, but I had a wonderful night's sleep last night
I seem to go through stages where I just teeter on edge of sleep so really don't get any rest, had one of those periods for almost a week so needed a good night.
Hope you all have a good day

Afternoon, everyone. Big hugs to everyone who's having a rotten day, for whatever reason.
Well after a crummy night's sleep DH woke me up at 5.30am when he got up for work to tell me I'd put some of DS's socks in his drawer, that the shower wasn't working properly and could I get him some yoghurt while I was out. Basically told him what he could do with his yogurt but too late, I was awake. Why couldn't he just email me from work with a list, like he normally does? anyway, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the shower so I rather hope it was just him being ham fisted.
The saga of DS's room continues. I haven't actually done much IN his room today, but I have been doing connected activities such as locating the necessary bits in the attic for his revamped shelving unit, taking all the stuff that I sorted out yesterday to the charity shops and lugging things both up and down the attic Ramsey ladder. Looking for things up in the attic can turn out to be quite a voyage of discovery...it's fourty-five feet long and fifteen wide and even though one end is for my craft equipment and supplies, there's plenty of room left for junk. I found a pile of things that I'd stoshed away in various hidey holes for DD's birthday next month, which was well worth doing, got down the winter duvets for the kids beds, found the shelves I wanted, sorted out another bag or two for the charity shop/Scouts piles and...really, I think I've been doing pretty well. I am filthy though!!
In between bouts up the attic I've also done three loads of laundry, cleaned out the cat tray, hoovered the living room, emptied the dishwasher, been to the Post Office, Tesco for yoghurt (!), the recycling centre and finished off and posted a ghastly piece of paperwork to the solicitor.
Food tonight is pasta and pizza for the kids, because DD is bringing a fussy friend home for tea after school, and pork stir fry for us. If I get round to getting the pork out the freezer, which given my general level of concentration these days...
So...it's now nearly 4pm. DD and Fussy Friend are home, DS will be home soon, the lady from the local craft place has turned up to collect the three Guild spinning wheels that were cluttering up my utility room, all the stuff I Freecycled yesterday is stacked by the front door waiting to be collected and when DS comes home I will make him help me put the last of todays sortings into the bin/attic/recycling piles downstairs.
Think I'll have a cup of tea first though.:coffee::DVal.0 -
Hello all :hello:
((((HUGS)))) to everyone who's poorly! NPM, thank goodness you took the Tamiflu! Smokybabe, glad you are starting to feel better.
Penny_Pincher, hope you've been getting on ok at hospital.
Mudgekin - Hiya! how nice to see you. Glad you feel up to posting.
Went to hospital this morning for ultrasound of my varicose veins. Then this afternoon I had a call from their Appointments Office offering me an appointment tomorrow to see the Consultant about the scan pictures! I had to turn it down, as my brother and his OH are visiting tomorrow (over from Germany doing the rounds of the family). I hope it isn't urgent and that they just had a cancellation. In any case, my DH has to drive me there, and not only did he take me there this morning, he also took DS to almost the same place yesterday and the day before, as DS has just started an evening course at the college there and didn't yet have a pass for the college car park but couldn't have got to his classes in time on public transport. This morning it took us an hour to drive there, and it's only 9 miles  So I really couldn't have asked him to do it again tomorrow anyway, bless him.
Don't feel at all ready for visitors, house is in a state as per usual, but neither of us is up to doing much about it atm so never mind. They are coming to see the family in any case, not to inspect my housekeeping. (just as well
)
I made shepherd's pie last night with leftover lamb from Sunday. I put carrots in with it, and cabbage (on the plate, not in with the mince
) It was lovely. I've made it a couple of times before (I tend to make Cottage Pie, with beef mince) but thought the ready-minced lamb was a bit too rich. The "leftovers" one was just right! However, I did "a bit of a Nigel" - I misjudged how much mash I'd need and made too much, so that will be bubble-and-squeak tonight with the rest of the cabbage. Which reminds me, I suppose I'll have to cook the rest of the cabbage first! With the bubble-and-squeak we're having grilled bacon from the butcher
No cooking tomorrow - fish and chips for lunch, and going out for dinner :T0 -
Afternoon all.
((((HUGS)))) for all who are poorly, unhappy or otherwise not having a very good time just now.
Our new sofa has arrived - the men had a bit of a struggle getting it in, as the corridor to the lounge is a bit narrow and twisty, but they managed, and they've taken the old saggy back-wrecking one away.:o
Not done a lot today, other than the usual Shepherd Spy that we have when Mr LW is w*rking from home; I did, however, get around to writing to the hospital consultant. Mr LW helped me (I get all tongue-tied if I'm doing something on my own behalf) and he'll post it for me on the way to w*rk tomorrow.
I have a long list of tasks that want doing, and frankly cba with any of them! Oh well, tomorrow's another day....:pIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Didn't really make myself clear! There are 15 x 1kg bags in a pack. Works out at just less than 53p each. :money:IF you have a card or know someone who does AND you live near enough to be passing AND you can use it yourself or share a pack with someone, it's definitely worth it. Otherwise you probably don't want to know!
I do have a card, I do know someone who will share with me (my mum) and we shall be going back to take advantage of some more vouchers. Sooooooo that being the case I can see me stocking up on sugar. Just not sure where I'll put it though :rotfl:
I am feeling far less grumpy now
Thank you for all your comments re my H. He generally doesn't get up until 8am each work day (which I don't mind since I am not going to work) but weekends it would just be nice to have a couple of hours extra sleep. Will have to see how the situation pans out in the future - I am vile when I am tired so perhaps in his best interests longterm to make more of an effort to have one when it suits me (and not him
)
Anyway off out tonight and mouth is watering at the thought of the delish chicken and leek pie they serve at the pub............I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Okay, Fussy Child has rejected pasta, tomato and basil sauce (from Tesco because her mum said that was the only one she would eat), HM pepperoni pizza, bread, butter, cucumber and carrot sticks and water to drink. She is sitting there weeping because she's hungry, yet her mother assured me FC would eat all the above. Apparently I have cut everything the wrong way, the bread is "funny" (it's Tesco again, same as she gets at home) and the macaroni isn't the right macaroni either.
I asked her what she would prefer to eat...I'll throw together beans on toast or a bowl of cereal for a visiting child, though I won't do it for my own if they're being pests. She asked for MacDonalds and a Mars Bar milkshake. My kids' eyes lit up at this but no, I'm sorry, I ain't going there. I'm not saying that my kids don't get the odd MacBurger once in a blue moon, but not as a reward because they won't eat their tea.
Anyhow I have phoned up mum for advice and been told not to worry, she'll come and pick up FC straight away and take her home to give her tea. Now it's only an hour till pick up time anyway and normally I would not be pandering to all of this but I'm not used to eight year olds howling in hysteria because they're hungry despite having platefuls of their (so I'm told) normal food in front of them. Belive me, I've tried coaxing her a bit, being nice, suggesting she try a bit just to see if it's okay. My DD has been round at her house for meals several times and FC comes round a lot to play, so we're not strangers to each other. Have I mentioned this child is really very overweight? What's the betting that FC's mum goes home via MacDonalds????
PS. I went through again and now FC is howling because my two ate her dinner. Well she said she didn't want it after half an hour of it sitting there in the serving dishes, so why not? What am I supposed to do now?Val.0 -
Loved the Dust poem and have just sent it to my eldest DD who rushes around at times like a headless chicken .:)
Managed to survive browsing at Aldis and came home with the same amount I went out with so it was a NSD after all.
DDs interview was a hoot, she said the chap actually said to her 'Well if you come and work here I don't want to hear if your sprogs have a bellyache I'm just more interested in getting the job done .The bloke then asked her if she smoked, and she said No, then he leered at her and said Have you any other bad habits then, I see you have five kids . By this time my DD thought I don't care really I'm not working here. He said -bearing in mind that she is a trained negotiator, and has worked for some fairly large estate agents-"This agency caters for the dreggy end of the market, normally single chavvy mums with several sprogs living on benefits, that way we don't have any problems with them, as the social sort their rent out we just have to process it for the owners, and by the way I prefer an older woman working here as they are more thankful for a job"
My DD is 40 at Christmas but looks a lot younger. She was also better dressed than this chap as she said his shirt looked as though it could do with a wash and he hadn't even got a tie on. By this time my DD was biting her tongue and couldn't wait to get out of the place. So that was a no no.All the way home she had me in stitches with her description of this objectional bloke
Still she has two second interviews tomorrow in Sittingbourne so fingers crossed. Just going off to have two slices of welsh rabbit as I really fancy that tonight Have a good evening every one

Ooh. This is hard. I usually just earwig on the daily, so hi everyone, but Val's dealings with FC!!! Normally wouldn't comment on other people's kids, but can't help myself. I was slightly overweight as a child, and it turned into a huge problem for me as an adult. Serious emotional eating issues. I have a huge problems with parents, actually I have correct myself and say mothers, who let their children become overweight. Now I am not the food Gestapo, and my kids are certainly allowed sweets etc. but they know that if they don't eat their dinner, they don't eat. AND if I ever found out that they were refusing food in someone else's home after being invited, they would not be allowed to go again. Full stop.
Sorry, rant over, but seriously OMG this pushes my buttons. Well done for keeping your cool. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your window

At least she could see the funny side, and didn't take the job just because she needed it. Are they part of a chain? Maybe a quick call to their head office about his discriminatory interview technique would be appropriate?!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
