Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 24th September. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all
Bitsy - thank you hon, I pray that one day my nephews will come and find me, but when I think of all the time we have lost..
And I have to say - your brother in law sounds like a real !!!!. :rotfl:
Annie - Well done to your Hubby with his new job and how exciting meeting those chefs soon!
Taplady - I think if we tried to keep our cat off the bed she would complain loudly. She likes to actually sleep on top of a body (usually my OH's).
Bargainbird - still thinking of you hon
Sampainter - sounds lovely. I had several similar moments this summer when in the garden surrounded by the abundance of flowers and vegetables and the cat lying on the patio in the sunshine when I felt all was right in the world!
Ivyleaf and kjsam - the test drive went Ok. The MB Vito is a beast of a van but feels like a nice car inside. It wasn't too hard to get into once parked near a kerb. I have applied for a grant - the actual cost of the car would be nearly £7000 on top of my mobility allowance which is ridiculous!
Taplady - I am so sorry to hear about your friend honey. My friend who had her lumpectomy two weeks ago was told that one of the nodes they removed was cancerous so she is going back in to have all her lymph nodes removed on Friday. It's a worrying time.
Topher - thank you for the pics!
FairyE - how is your father doing?
Bitsy - Don't feel bad honey. If you are not close to someone then of course you won't feel upset. There is no need to feel guilty, we don't choose our family and we shouldn't feel obliged to love them just because we are related!
On the way home from the test drive, we passed an apple tree in a layby covered in big red apples, and to give my OH his due, he did stop and wade through some stinging nettles (under a bit of duress from me
) to reach the tree, only to find even the lowest branches were beyond his reach.. The first time I have EVER persuaded him to forage and he just ended up with one leg of nettle stings and nothing to show for it. I shouldn't laugh.. :rotfl:
Dinner tonight will be something from the freezer - I just need to decide what! I have the BM on and just set the WM going, and am just about to continue edging the muslin cloths til Tris appears. He is still all grumpy, the new meds are not great.
Hope you have a great day today. Warm gentle
for anyone who wants one!

Good morning everyone
Almost to the end of another working week! Hopefully I'm going to have a no-spend day today, as it seems like forever since I had one last. I've just had a cola - bad me, I know - but some mornings are harder than others, and considering I overslept yesterday and was nearly late for work... I deemed it necessary
I think we're going out for tea tonight, although I'm not sure. To be honest I could do with a rest as this weekend is likely to be as busy as this week has been. There's also a few potential worries on the horizon, too. Here's to a good day.

Hi all. I haven't posted for days because our visitors are here and the time is whizzing by, but just wanted to pop in and say that I hope everyone is well.
We've been having a lovely week with barely any housew**k being done at all, but I think I'll be looking forward to a rest next week.
Hope you all have a great day.

Morning peeps
seems a lot warmer this morning so hopefully another nice day, the washing machine is on this morning as is the dishwasher and breadmaker, DH will be doing all the emptying once they have all finished.
This afternoon i have another cupboard to clear out, i`m hoping that one day i shall reach the end of all the decluttering but that end is not yet in sight. Final shift today then i`m off for five days so in quieter moments i shall be making some lists of things to do, i`m not expecting miracles tomorrow though as DH is also off and i don`t seem to achieve very much when this happens  we shall still be up bright and early as we have the first two appointments at the opticians in the morning so once that is over the rest of the day is ours.
Hopefully i shall manage to buy some curtain linings in the morning too, the last time i called into the shop for some there were none left in the size that i needed so fingers crossed this time.
I`ve rambled enough this morning so i shall toddle off for a cuppa, have a good day peeps.

PS Anyone who is interested in the Mrs Beeton books have a look at the end of yesterdays thread as there is a very good offer that i posted.Planning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning everyone.
Been up from 5.20am courtesy of DD. I am really fed up of having to get up so early, especially since I never seem to get a lie in weekends. It rankles between me and H a bit - I asked (yes asked, never get given them ) at the weekend if he could get up with the kids and the first words out of his mouth were "if I have to......I didn't sleep well". This isn't the first time that's been trotted out and he fails to realise that I STILL have to get up even if I've had a naff nights sleep. Sorry am p!ssed off this morning and I am replaying the comments in my head which aren't helping my mood
Nothing planned today, just the usual housework and entertaining the kids. Going out with friends for a bite to eat tonight so H will have to fend for himself.
Diva - what you need to keep in the car is one of those flat pack stools to give your H extra height for foragingSorry Tris is still grumpy. I bet me and him would be good bedfellows given the mood I feel in
Kitchenbunny - sorry to hear you have potential worries on the horizon x

Morning all:wave:
Today is the 250th birthday of Guinness:beer: A perfect excuse for drinking. So in honour of the black stuff we are having beef in Guinness with mash for supper. I shall be slow cooking it in the oven for a couple of hours. Me and OH will have a glass or two as well.
Breakfast will be porridge and toppings (banana, blackberry and apple, sultanas- whatever they fancy).
I shall have yogurt and blackberry & apple.
Lunchboxes -OH has some wedges of cheese (hard goat's cheese, Cheddar and blue), a tub of coleslaw, a roll, oatcakes, apricot cake and an apple.
Kids have cheese sandwiches, apricot cake, grapes and cherry tomatoes.
I shall have a salad made of leftover green beans and hardboiled egg plus some tomatoes, a bit of blue cheese and some black olives.
Not much else to do today-OH has just taken my car to be MOTd so I can't go far today. There's laundry and the cake tin is looking empty so some baking to do and my sour dough starter needs feeding-it's like a pet lol.
Must go and do the porridge.0 -
Morning All
(((Bitsy))) & ((hugs)) for anyone else who needs one.
Didnt get on here yesterday - time went nowhere. DS had a sore throat so he stayed at home off school with OH while I popped into town (bought a pair of jeans from gap with the 30% off voucher) By the time I came back his temperature was 40, shakes n aches all over. His temperature has gone down this morning luckily but is sick & headachy.
DD is year 10 at school and yesterday a year 8 boy died during a pe lesson from a heart attack. She didnt know him personally but some of her friends did, will be a hard day at school today.
Need to get some ironing done today & some housework, also will spend some time in my office. Will be looking after DS and waiting for B Gas to come & service the boiler - not looking forward to that one, it always seem to break down a week later.
Offski now, have a great day all.x0 -
Morning!
Didn't find time to post yesterday though I did read some of the thread.
Bargainbird-my thoughts are with you.
MSD- both my cats sleep with me, one next to me or under the covers if its cold and the other on my pillow so he can suck my hair!!!!!!!!!
Bitsy-you have my sympathies-for a lond time dd was a very early riser and she still wakes me at least twice a night to be covered up aaarrrggghhh!
I need to do a lot of cleaning today generally and a deep clean of the kitchen or the front room. I'll see which I feel like when I get back from taking dd to school.
Going to make packed lunch in a minute. Having HM breadcrumbed fried chicken for tea with wedges, corn and HM coleslaw (for me). I also need to ind time to make some buns or a traybake of some sort.
Hope everyone has a good day. Hugs to those that need one.July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.

Morning all
OH is off today and I'm in 2-6 so will be blitzing the house later - OH has to take DS to beavers tonight for his 'initiation'. He's really excited!!
I must finish my OU assignment too - just got the written piece to do and then its finished!! ayay!! Checked my eligiblility for next years courses and it seems like I'll get a full award again so I might continue with the next spanish course to get a certificate of Spanish - I should really do something that would help me in my career but I still, at the age of 30, don't know what I want to be doing!!
DD fell over at school yesterday and now has a huge plaster on her knee and 'can't walk'!! She'll be fine!
WM on and just about to make brekkie for the kids - then shower and dress for all - take them to school then I'll start on the kitchen whilst OH does upstairs.
Tea tonight is spiced lamb chops and couscous - yum yum!!
Have a good day all,
Gerty xMade it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:0 -
Hello everyone, not getting on here as often as I would like. Parents are here, Dad convalescing. They had wanted to visit aunt in france, but not worked out. North Cheshire not the same, but he's comfortable enough here. By the time they were here they'd travelled enough.
Busy with my twin town Youth orchestra exchange that is happening mid October. Back in work now term has started. It goes on!
My OS triumph this week was Japonica jelly. SIL bought me a requested plannt a couple of years ago One small bush produced 1.5kg fruit and a few small jars of jelly. Bit too lemony, will probably leave that out next time. Sugar only 53p per bag from costco.
Trying to feeed the masses out of the freezer at the moment. Mum brought 2 large boxes of tomatoes, runner beans, potatoes, and cabbage. All helps.
Shall have to go and get on. lots to do before I go into work later."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
