They are robbing cowboys and I cant believe they get away with this. If they were to get a CCJ against me, would my credit rating be effected straight away, or would it only be if i did not pay within the 28 days? Does anyone know of anyone that was taken to court?

A bit concerned that if I ignore it and I get taken to court i'm going to end up having to pay double. But I think i'l take the risk.

It is not a risk! UKPC have never done Court as far as I can remember (from posting on here and on pepipoo fightback forums most days for 3 years). Their letters are designed to scare the stupid, the under-informed and the easily-led into paying them - do NOT be a victim!

Do you really think a private company can just 'apply for a CCJ' without the small matter of having to actually win a Small Claims case? And in the case of a fake parking ticket it's exceedingly rare to find a defended case where the PPC scumbags manage to convince a judge and win. Where it does happen, once or twice that I can think of, it's where a case was either badly defended or the 'motorist' is actually a stooge.

It's nothing to worry about, just a scam. I have ignored a fake PCN 3 years ago - NOTHING HAPPENS EXCEPT THE LETTERS (+ maybe the odd phone call as well if the debt collector plays that game). I am just a law-abiding wife & Mum with a responsible job - and I used to be a Bank Manager years ago - and I can tell you for sure that ignoring this scam will not affect your mortgage rating because there will be no Small Claim. It's just a series of scary threats - and ignoring them is just like ignoring phishing email scumbags!

I would strongly advise you to read the sticky threads at the top and any other thread on the first page that takes your fancy (except threads about REAL parking tickets from Councils):

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...play.php?f=163

You will soon understand that you must just ignore the bogus PCN as it's a scam, it's NOT a fine. Make sure you watch the Watchdog link and check out the preview pics of the 'scary debt collector letter-chain' that you can look forward to filing in your drawer marked 'ignore, scam'.

ALWAYS simply ignore any private parking ticket. Only ever take seriously a ticket from the Police, TFL or a Council. It's really easy once you've read up on it.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I try not to use "stupid" to describe the unsuspecting. They may be dullwitted and simple but we aspire to help all of them.

So I apparently parked without paying, however, I did contact them to no avail, I sent them evidence of NO SIGNS in the close vicinity of my vehicle, also, there was no pay machine any near for me to even know that the area required parking charge (outside a block of residential apartments!) - they just wrote back saying that it's clearly sign posted etc (as I am sure they would)

Well, so far I have had 4 letters from UKPC, reached a total of £90 to pay... today received my letter from Debt Recovery Plus Ltd (co reg: 6774150) and it's jumped to £140... however, they have not broken this down as to how they get to this amount.

No threatening of bailiffs for me... just solicitors - look forward to receiving their letter. I have 7 days, so maybe next week shall receive some more exciting post!

I just desperately hope that having read these posts from day one that I haven't got it wrong!

Has anyone actually succeeded from having ignoring ALL correspondence from these companies?

    Thanks

    Lewis

Too much stress when it arrives, but soon gets filed in my desk tray and forgotten about!

I work in contract law (not a qualified solicitor, but the chap sat next to me is), so I'm in the position of knowing EXACTLY what they can and cannot do me for, from a legal perspective.

I wouldn't fear one at all. OR the missus!

Your problem, or more likely your wife's problem, is in mistaking a FAKE parking ticket for a real one. This industry survives by telling you lies and by making threats which are never carried out.

That is because, (unlike a Council, or the Police) they have no legal authority to issue fines to anyone, and no authority to demand to know who was driving. However, that doesn't stop them from PRETENDING that they do, because that is how it works! What you actually have is an unenforceable speculative invoice, which they are INVITING you to pay- albeit in forceful terms. But read their letters and you will find they are not saying they WILL do something, only that they MIGHT. And they never do as they know perfectly well that despite the bluff and bluster they have no way of enforcing this invoice if you just ignore it.

You may hear from phoney debt collectors or solicitors- all part of the carefully-rehearsed routine; but if you take no notice of them, they will stop wasting postage on you, trying to get money you are never going to give them And they will go away, never to be heard from again.

Once you work out how they operate it is easy to ignore them calmly, even to laugh at their pathetic attempts to scare you.

I have put my own advice into practice over 80 times with a variety of these people, never ever paid any of them a penny and they have ALL gone away. Taken the mick out of a few, but that's another story; and even sued one that went just a bit too far.

So- worry ye not, my friend. Join the ever swelling ranks of those who know what their little game is all about. And don't forget to tell all your family and friends too!
