Personally I love St.Andrews beach. Its nice and long and has plenty of grassy areas to lie on

Thanks for such an interesting thread!

Going to Mull for a week in August then over to Aberdeen for a week so any beach (or other tips) gratefully received!
Will be trying out Calgary on Mull, any good beaches near Aberdeen (have 2 young children and hubby too!)

    Thanks

Not sure how "near" to Aberdeen you need but Montrose is nice it's 36 miles south and there is a great playpark by the beach that the kid's will love, last time I was there with my nephews got speaking to a couple who regularly bring their granddaughter there from Peterhead because they rate the playpark so highly.

For jaw-dropping gorgeousness, a beach on North Usit but I've no idea what it was called. I just remeber thinking wow, I could sit here all day and just look out to see.
For personal reasons, it's Lunderston bay in Gourock. It's not the best beach, it's busy, but over the years there I've had so much fun there. There are raocky sandstone sections with loads of rockpools, then yellow sandy bits, then shingle beach, and you can walk for miles with gorgeous view across the Clyde. I played there as a kid, and now I take my nephew's there and they love it, and on a really hot day (not too often in Scotland) I can ride my horses on to the beach and swim with them, heaven.

    Ganavan Sands Oban

Small but perfectly formed and where my children learned to walk.

Depending on how young your children are will dictate what type of beach you are looking for, Aberdeen Beach itself is a good sandy flat beach with easy access by car and plenty of facilities nearby when (not if) the weather turns!! lol!! Stonehaven beach further south is also excellent with plenty of facilities available nearby. If they are hardy enough to walk a bit or you can carry them consider Balmedie or Forvie Sands to the north of Aberdeen. Some fantastic sand dunes. So far we haven't had the weather to enjoy it but I can promise you some fantastic scenery. I've even been when it was white with snow and marvelled at the sights to be seen. Enjoy!:j
