Dunnet Beach is gorgeous and deserted, but freezing most of the year. Here is a view of it from the sky.0

Edinburgh Evening News are looking for comments on Lothian beaches:
"The Lothians have some fantastic beaches. Over the years, many efforts have been made to clean them up and make them safe for everyone who uses them - whether they be sunbathing, swimming, surfing or just out for a stroll.
But all is not as idyllic as it seems. After heavy rain, some beaches can be hit by overflowing sewage.
What do you think of the beaches in the Lothians? Are they clean and safe or have you had a bad experience? "

Hi CC [I think?] just had a look at that link with a piccy of North Berwick beach, it reminded me that years ago we used to love playing and climbing on those handy pipes on the beach at North Berwick - never realised until years later they were sewage outflow pipes
Happily survived the expereince none the worse for wear

Kiloran Bay IS gorgeous; you get the full deep blue sea / green grass / yellow sands combo that is so pictureskew, as my father (a native of Colonsay) is wont to say.
However, it is also seriously blinkin' cold, even at the height of summer. I get flashback goosepimples just looking at the picture...When in doubt, make soup.0 -
[Came across this thread and it really got me thinking. This is my first post on ths website so hello everybody.
My favourite beach during my childhood was Shell Bay near Elie in Fife. At that time there were very few tourists around and you had to go down a dirt track for about half a mile to reach it. It seemed like our own little paradise. This was in the early seventies, we had some really good summers then ( Is it my age or were summers really better then?????)
I have also visited many of the beaches mentioned and they are all worthy of a nomination, we are truly blessed with some of the worlds finest beaches and although we don't have very many "sunbathing days" it's a natural asset we should be all be proud of and protect. :cool:0
