  • MilliesMum (hugs) I saw your post just as I was running out to get the big kids so had no time to reply... I just wanted to say that the hv I had with dd1 was much the same... You are doing a wonderful job!

The growth charts that they plot the babys weight on are based on formula fed babies (I checked this time round and apparently although they do have them for bf babies there is a problem getting them to put into the books)

I ended up doing pretty much what MFD suggested to her friend and stopped going to the hv - unless they needed an injection (or there was something that I was unsure/didn't know about) tbh the worry that she caused (i.e. your baby is not putting on enough weight was the sort of stress that no mummy needs)

It took until I had my third child for me to realise that I just have petite children - it isn't that I am doing anything "wrong" it is just the way they are x

Keep your chin up! (and teach lo to blow raspberries at the hv :D)

    Em (((hugs))) all round.

Christophers (DS2) fancy 'diversuit material' daytime hand splint has been ordered. He has picked turquoise :D So woohoo, we've only been waiting 6 months. So OT was at nursery meaning his therapies are back on again. SALT is out on the 22nd Oct then every 2 weeks so I will hopfully get to meet him then. OT and Physio have pushed me to contact council re full time placemnet funding at his nursery rather than one of teh council nurseries, they will each be wrinting a letter of support for me and bullying the SALT into one too. Contacted the educational psychologist as she was supposed to be doing all this stuff and getting us a social worker who would contact everyone for us rather than it being left to us, but they have a big EU (?) review so guess what? All their 'clients' (ie, us) can go rot! Also got the contact details of who we can talk to about a disability home improvent grant but the OT said don't hold our breath they are stingy and tight. Looks like we will have to get our fingers out and just move, plus parking in this street is getting so bad. Keep looking at this house. Easy to put a drive in, could possibly convert the loft and we can probably afford it, course that would mean getting off our butts and moving...

Having to admit that Amber is now combination fed rather than breastfed as she is getting 2-3 formula feeds a day and I can't express anymore than 40mls at a time so feeling guilty but also it will be 8 weeks tomrrow so I did a lot better than I thought I would. hey-ho.

Oh but we got her halloween outfit, well daddy got it :D cute little witch outfit from tesco. It's 6-9 month but is tiny so she should fit it. Course she also had to get the little halloween slippers to match...

Elle and anyone else may be interested to hear that the HV told me today that early weaning (pre 6mth) has been shown to cause fatty deposits in baby's arteries  no source given but she did say 'they' found out from autopsys of babies :(

Millie's mum, molly's best friend Poppy is 2 months younger so now 17m, she is still in 6-9m clothes, not sure of weight but v.small and is 0.4centile. THey look so opposite as Molly is tall, has fewer teeth, hair and climbs a lot, but they are best friends and get very excited to see each other. Her mum has worried endlessly about her but has now resigned herself to having a smaller than average child, who eats according to her size, sleep ok and is short at the moment.

I believe that as long as they are eating, sleeping and generally healthy, there is nothing more you can do, some kids are on the 0.4centile, after all its there for a reason!!

  • Tia, if you put her to the breast before you offer formula, it should help to preserve your supply... You've done amazingly well!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

He doesn't usually travel further afield that often but it's all managed to work out to be either on his way to or from work which is good because it saves on petrol.

Amber was born on the 25th percentile and is now following the 9th so all I get is 'feed her, feed her, feed her'.
Do they not appreciate that the curves are averages and that very few babies will stay on one line? Do you have the breastfed baby charts or the formula fed ones? Alice was born on the 75th and always stayed above the 50th on the breastfed chart (just touched it once) but on the formula one I think she actually went down as far as the 25th at one point. And I'm sure a baby born on the 99.6th centile who waent down to the 91st wouldn't get so much fuss made. It's like they don't realise that "normal" is not the same for everybody.
