Hi everyone who has just come on :) Glam, is he keeping more down? Or less each time and more often? Hope he settles for you soon

Weezl, hope you are feeling better today :) Hope your down day wasnt for anything too serious :)

    Morning 3 :)

hi mm - he always keeps the milk down it's getting it down him in the first place. much better with medium flow teats (thanks girls) and seemed to get more from vari-flow maybe he was sucking better

we have CI policy, nothing in writing but I think Jack would go to MIL & FIL - they both work but mil would give it up and I know OH's grandparents would provide financially for Jack. my dad's on his own and not sure about my mum!

I have a good nhs pension but OH has none - on the flip side he has some savings which could tide him over for a few months.

Feelie you know all the people involved, so you are the expert.:D Sometimes others do contest the guardianship of a child if not written down. Is it at all possible that anyone from OH's side might do that?

In practice it makes little difference if its written down although a court would consider the deceased's intentions and wishes, the court has to look at what is in the childs best interests. The potential carer would have to make an application to the court for a residence order after the parents death to get parental responsibility anyway and anyone can contest this or make their own application for residence of the child regardless of the parents wishes.

glam the nhs pension will pay a pension to your OH and jack if you die. DH is in that scheme so I did the sums last night :)

I can give you more detail if that would help?

    wow! Thanks mooki,

I so didn't know that! So there's no point nominating my brother as legal guardian in any formal way?

I would definately nominate him in your Will simply because it would put off any 'well-meaning' people who think that the children would be better off with them. Also psychologically for you, you know that you have someone nominated to care for him and certainly that would help me sleep a little easier IYKWIM.

I've always known that I am nominated in my parents Will as my little brother legal guardian upon their deaths. But I also know that my auntie feels that she is better qualified to do this. I think however knowing that my parents want him to be with me would be a big factor in her deciding not to contest any application I might make for residence.

i forgot to say - OH spoke to the CAB about access for DSD at last, and they sent him some information which basically told him not to bother!
because the courts are reluctant to commit people to prison for failing to comply with an order, one party can make it difficult for contact to take place according to the terms of the order as there are no real repercussions for doing so. There is little the person seeking contact can do.

I have nothing in place for Leila if anything happens to us. Hubby has some pension or other from working as a civil servant for a while. Really any money we have we need right here right now! Its all I could do to open my bank statement this morning. I know that I have a huge family network who would financially support Leila if the worst happens. My parents are very wealthy and i'm just waiting for my lottery win so I can be too!!!

I do know just what you mean Mooki - I'm sure I wouldn't have life cover if it wasn't free from work, and I pay very reluctantly into a pension because it's a great deal with contribution matching etc from work - but even though I'm getting a "great return" on those payments, seeing hundreds of pounds monthly disappear into a black box I can't touch for 30 years, instead of being spent on things we want right now! Gah!

i just rang the tax credits people to ask about updating my claim to include the childcare element and they said i cant do it til i'm actually back at work  how on earth am i supposed to actually pay for the childcare if they take their time adding the money on??

does anyone have any experience of claiming the childcare element when already getting CTC/WTC? its under 3 weeks til i go back, i just want to get things sorted so i know where i stand!!
