how much are you spending on food shopping a week?

To be fair, Dave can live very healthily on £3pw - if he has some-one else paying for the vast majority of his food, eg parents.0

I think it could be done however it might of needed some start up costs for the store cupboard basics e.g. stock cubes, rice, eggs etc
I don't think the meals would be exciting however if we're talking about saving money then that shouldn't matter.
A Sainsbury's Whole Chicken, Basics (approx. 2.3kg) cost 1.99 and spend the other £1.01p on potatoes and veg (Please bare in mind I'll be buying a single items of veg and that could be 2p per item)
Chicken risotto
Roast Chicken(breasts) and Veg
Slow roasted chicken thighs with tomato/herb sauce
Cajun Chicken legs with potatoes wedges
Veg risotto
Stuffed pepper with rice and herbs
I think this is the closest I could get for £3 per week purely on food and not taking into account what basic items I might already have
Not sure however
Ay x0 -

Good try, but thats one meal a day. Dave claims to buy all meals including the 5 a day and toiletries.0 -
For those of you who don't believe Dave, there is a thread on the Old Style board by Weezl74: 'Eat Healthily on 50p per day'. This was a couple of years ago, is primarily vegetarian and does include some oddities like a pig's head  .... however she did manage to keep it going for many months, and there are a lot of ideas you can take away.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Just to say that the basics chicken is £1.99 per kilo so the whole chicken would cost over £4 which would take it out of Dave's reach! Sorry to disaapoint but I thought 'wow, that's a bargain, I'll get some' but saw the price when I clicked on the link!£2 savers club no.107 :j £36 so far.0

We were £120-£140 a week for 6 of us but with clearing the freezers and a bit of forward planning and cutting out some of the stuff you dont really need, we're down to £80. That includes everything (toiletries, cleaning products, food etc).
Every meal's home cooked too. 2 mince (spag bol and a lasagne), 2 chicken (tortilla wraps then curry), silverside joint (roast and a steak pie) and macaroni cheese for day 7.0 -
today i had beans on wholemeal bread and blackberries after. baked potato and peas later. came to about 40pMartin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0

I tried this once.
One week I decided to see how much I could get for as little money possible. Sort of an experiment. I decided that I was going to buy all the food on the Monday and last until the following Monday morning!
I managed to do a weekly shop for about £4.50. My shopping basket consisted pretty much of cheap noodles (8p), jelly (7p), apples (9p), pasta (43p), bread (47p), cereal (46p!!!), milk (49p), jam, (35p) sandwich spread (27p) and beans (26p)! I was infact well fed for that entire week. I drank water for the whole week. I could have probably went for £3 if I hadn't wanted so much variety and just practically lived on the noodles and cereal.
Everything I bought was the lowest price and to be honest it tasted pretty much the same as more expensive brands...well except the cornflakes...they were a bit gross.
I think it IS possible to live on £3 a week. Difficult and probably not advised in the long run but entirely possible. I think it's unfair to say things about Dave being malnutritioned etc. To be fair, you could give me £80 a week to spend on food and I'd likely get a takeaway most nights and live on crisps, ready meals, sausage rolls and fizzy juice!
I think the healthiest I've ever eaten is when I'm on a budget!0 -
